Ayvalik

Does anyone know anything about ayvalik , a little fishig village north of Izmir.
Looks really nice but would like to hear from someone about what it is really like. How far is it from Izmir. etc.

Re: Ayvalik

We used to live in lovely Ayvalik before we moved to Akyaka..not that far from Izmir, often took the bus for a day outing: shopping or visiting. Beach area has easy access but only drawback would be a stoney shore.
A short bus ride would take you to a lovely shore line in "Sarmisak"
The nearby island of Cunda offers a variety of seaside restaurants, historical sites including a church.
Ferry boat crossings over to the Greek island: Lesvos(Midili)...
More than a few expats living in Akyaka area now.

We went to Cunda, Alibey adası, in Ayvalık several times. It is a lovely place. Food and beverage was not very expensive (last time we went there was in 2002).
In Cunda there were pensons, some hotels not luxurious but comfortable and affordable when we were last there. There are many cafes and restaurants on the seaside.
And there is a very nice camping place there, Ada camping, situated at a very lovely seaside place. There are some caravans there that you can rent and place for tents.

Ayvalik toast, the local speciality, with many things inside, was cheap and delicious. And the breakfast at cafes on the seaside also is worth a try.

You can also take a boat trip form Ayvalık or Cunda. If you go there I suggest taking a short trip to Mount Ida.

Thanks Yas and Serdar. We are looking for a Turkish Property but are still not sure whether we would like somewhere a little quieter than the usual resorts and whether places like this are a good investment.

We preferred living in Bodrum for a while before buying anything. I think this is the best if you have the opportunity.
