Ikea Prices in Turkey
I have just spent an hour or so going throught the online Ikea brochure for turkey here and comparing prices to the English Ikea Brochure prices.
I was surprised at the difference in prices with the Turkish prices more expensive than in the UK. Some items were only £10 or so but a corner suite that sells for £625 in the UK retails for £726 in Turkey (at current currency exchange rate) that is a big hike.
Has anyone else done a comparison?
Maybe I will stick to shopping in Ortaca/Dalaman and haggling for discounts rather than the long trip to Izmir and then having to arrange delivery.

Re: Ikea Prices in Turkey
true, not everything is cheaper in Ikea Turkey than at home in UK - but are you surprised?
I am sure you can get locally made furniture cheaper - but the trick is finding it. I couldnt find any shops in Soke, except two on the main road out and they wanted silly money.
Its also a matter of taste or style - some people like Ikea, others hate it. Ditto the local furniture shops (went to basterziller in Kusadasi to be shown 6 floors of stuff my granny used to have)

Re: Ikea Prices in Turkey
I wasn't suprised at the small differences but £100 on something that cost £625 did I must admit.
I suppose I am in the lucky position of having turkish friends out in Dalyan who can point me in the right direction.
Hopefully the shops in Ortaca or Dalaman have more modern furniture available

Re: Ikea Prices in Turkey
Turkish Ikea is sure more expensive than the Dutch version. Also we found that items like ceiling lights and sofa's can be purchased cheaper and better quality in local shops.
Tip: not happy with the furniture in the shops, get a carpenter to custom make your furniture. It will fit exactly and will be exactly how you want it to be

Re: Ikea Prices in Turkey
Higher prices in Ikea is something to do with the way the Turkish lira is at the moment.
It is 30% overvalued and it is effecting prices across the board.

Re: Ikea Prices in Turkey
thanks for taking the time to check out the prices, i was just so excited at the prospect of an IKEA so near, we have a house in kusadasi which i am buying bits and pieces for and just assumed it would be as cheap as here. I had planned to drag hubby to visit the store when we go out in may, as he is fed up with me filling our suitcases with stuff for the house. I know there are some things that will be cheaper in the local shops but i hate the hagling and the feeling of being ripped off cos we are not local. I will put up a post when i come back to let others know what i thought of it.

Re: Ikea Prices in Turkey
You can check the prices online at www.ikea.com.tr - they have an online catalogue. Or you can e-mail them.
there are some things that are less than in UK, and some that are less than locally. Its like all things though - shop around

Re: Ikea Prices in Turkey
Hi, I work for Ikea and I have compared the prices in turkey to the prices in Cyprus and the UK and you are right that they are higher for some reason in Turkey. I will be making enquiries about this as we will be fitting out a 4 bed villa in January so I need contacts for furniture too.
The only reason I can think of for this price hype is that some stores are not owned by Ikea as they are franchised operations and as such sell only the Ikea brand but may be flexible on the prices.
As soon as I have an answer I will post it on.
