Question unusual mosquito repellents?

I don't know if mosquitoes are particularly bad in the Izmir area or not but the Other Half is badly allergic.

Does anyone have any tips for repelling the little blighters, aside from the usual suggestions (citronella, mozzie zappers/papers, and of course the commercial lotions etc)....? I was just looking at a web page where there were all kinds of weird suggestions, the weirdest of all was to wear a Bounce dryer sheet under your hat or in your belt loop (an idea supported by two or three other people's stories!).

We'll take the Avon So Soft (works for midges)...

Thanks

Yes they have been really bad this year. I have heard of the Bounce Dryer sheets too but I usually just buy Off and use the the Raid plug ins in the bedrooms and we have a mosquito zapper light out on the patio.

Thanks Ian, we have a Tansas in Seferihisar, I'll have a look. Raid plug-ins, yes, good tip thanks Azra - what's Off ? Is it a lotion?

The mosquito tips web page I was looking at has a great debate about whether eating bananas repels or attracts them. Up here in north Scotland we're eating lots of marmite as that is supposed to keep the midges off... I'll take some with me to Izmir on the 27th and run some mozzie-marmite tests and report back !!

It's a spray you put on that repels mosquitos.

I have Gail, i used them this year. they contain citronella, so you have to put up with the smell, but they did work, i only got bitten once.

i think i picked mine up in Aldi for £1 a pack (for 2 bands)

Thanks Claire, I don't usually get bitten but I am going to buy some of these before we go just incase. They seem to have bred well this year

Chew lots of minty chewing gum, drink lots of minty liquer and try to use Peppermint source deod.

They hate mint apparently and on my first trip to turkey a couple of years ago I did all of them about and didn't get a single bite (I usually suffer really badly).

Came back to Turkey in May, didn't do any of the above and relied on nasty chemical sprays and plugs ins and got eaten alive!
