Talking Old/New Foça Information Please

We plan to travel to the Izmir area in the next few weeks and would like to contact anyone with information about New/Old Foça. Any residents of the area who would like to share cost of living such as groceries and eating out, seasonal, as well as, long-term rentals, quality of life such as size of crowds during high seasons and anything else that you might be willing to share.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Old/New Foça Information Please

Though I have not been there myself my wife tells me it is a nice peaceful place. We pass the area on the way to our summer retreat in Balikeşir and each time say we will look in there. We have some friends from Istanbul who have retired there to get away from the city.

Things to consider are the distance from top class medical fascilities in Izmir and the airport. Another thing you need to check out is Aliağa a little way up the coast. This place is a main hub for gas in the west of Turkey and I believe there was a spill there not so long ago. I would take a trip up there and have a look around. We are looking to sell up in Bodrum and move to Urla which is south of Izmir and within reach of most fascilities.

Good hunting.

I just remembered taosgirl who lived in the area and was very knowledgable but now lives in Kent UK

Re: Old/New Foça Information Please

Yeni Foca - is beautiful, but is for the "retired". You'll find a lot of the homes in the region are summer homes, i have a fair share of friends who only live there on the weekend.

Izmir seems to be split up between the north and south, people who live Konak/Alsancak areas prefer summer homes and trips to the south side (Cesme / Urla / Seferhisar).

While the Karsiyaka folks prefer the Foca. Foca is basically Guzelbahce / Urla of the north in Izmir

-----
Cost of living etc. you'll find is quite cheap (cheaper than Istanbul in some ways). But more expensive when you need something a little scarce in Turkey.

With the closest MACRO CENTER being in CIGLI (2 hours drive) you'll struggle to find the stuff we like exotic sauces and imported market goods.

---

Rent wise the price is extremely variable, there are flats for 1100 TL/month and some for 12,000 TL /month. You would need to narrow your search down for us to give you a better estimation

---

Extremely far from the airport, you have to take that one super-long highway.
There are decent hospitals in CIGLI, a little far but adequate.
If you have a boat or plan to have one, you'll find there are plenty of FREE parking areas.

Keep in mind, they have a BEE problem there, so if you see people lighting small camp fires in the middle of summer, it's just for the bees.

Re: Old/New Foça Information Please

We have had a villa in Denizkoy which is about an hour away and we love it. There are very few brits about though but we love our Turkish neighbours . We visit Foca every two years or so. Its a beautiful place but small and slightly isolated as is Yeni Foca. You would need a car. We find Turkey reasonable price wise , similar to the Uk when you go out eating or drinking.
Again I doubt you would find any ex pats in Foca . Whilst we think our Turkish neighbours are lovely and several speak very basic english after several weeks there we miss being able to chew the cud . Currently in Denizkoy now .
The new motorway has made the trip to Izmir much quicker and is being extended all the time .
