Kalkan Public Services
To guide those considering buying property in Kalkan, posts on this and other websites have been critical of public services in Kalkan - sewerage, water and electrical supplies. So what are the facts?
Are there sewers and a sewage works or are new villas on septic tanks? (I see the belediye have replaced the old red tanker with a newer yellow one!)
Are any improvements planned to the electric and water supplies- we have experienced cuts in both on recent visits.
As Bankieken and other have pointed out, too rapid villa developent could outpace the supply of services, which would harm the image of Kalkan both to investors and visitors.

Re: Kalkan Public Services
Hi Tucker, we were in Kalkn the earlier part of the year, they were installing what we were told were new water pipes in the area of the market. We know for a fact that the houses built within the last 4-5 yrs have septic tanks in higher locations such as behind the Samira Aparts., also lower down and nearer the town area. These are supposed to be large ones to cover say 3-4 houses may be more. We suffered a 2 day water cut whilst out in January, not many tourists/holiday makers but lots of building going on which could have been a contributing factor. No power cuts though. It appears some of the local amenities have been contracted out to private sector, the dustbin collection for example, which was a great inprovement, the road sides were being cleared every day. For those of us to have known Kalkan for many years, we have and are seeing many changes, in the last 4 years the building has been tremendous just to look at photos will verify that, from nothing to almost everything, all too fast for the local authority to deal with we think plus of course politics/money/greed. Not much help to you really - things are changing but perhaps not fast enough for all the investors and those of us who think of Kalkan as our second home.

Thanks DRBD. As 5X visitors to Kalkan, I think we'll keep our investments (and peace of mind ) with the Skipton B. Soc. and keep our options open by trying some of the newer hotels - Rapsody, Elixir, Pasha Aparthotel, Serra. If the Yali has been upgraded it's a great chill-out. Pity the Mina and Elite went the way of apartment conversions.
Every trip to Kalkan we have been tempted by villa/apartment purchase, but have counted to ten!
( but in 2002 why didn't we buy the apartment in the pink old customs house building behind the beach for £39K - now for rent at £1000 weekly!!!!!!!)
