Break-ins

Just a quick note from Kalkan - our friends were again visited by burglars in the night two nights ago. Actually in the bedroom which is a bit scary. So make sure your properties are secure.

Re: Break-ins

Yes, we had a visit ourselves a week or so ago (and one last summer too) - we weren't actually in the villa at the time thank God (we'd gone out for a meal). They just took our laptop this time which was very irritating as it had work stuff on it etc.. I have since heard a rumour that the Jandarma have caught the culprit - he allegedly came from Fethiye and confessed to 25+ burglaries apparently, but I have my doubts as to whether this is true as just after the most recent event, the Jandarma suggested that the robber had a key to our villa and just made it look like a break-in! All rather disturbing as it does seem to becoming a more and more regular occurance these days.

Re: Break-ins

When I am dealing with clients who have bought a new home I always stress.......get new locks fitted. Loads of people have been coming in and out whilst the property is being constructed and could have kept a key or copied one.
And when I go to visit different housing complexes I can always tell which are the Turkish home owners........they are always the ones with security iron on windows and doors.

Re: Break-ins

We already have alarms but would like to either upgrade our alarm or fit window bars. Does anyone know if there is a security alarm shop in Kalkan or Kas & were would we get window bars made up and any ideas of costs??
Thank you

Re: Break-ins

HI
I've been following this thread with interest as I am looking for someone to manage our apartment and whilst in Kalkan in November we came across a lady that manages properties in Kalkan who commented that she was concerned that a number of properties she managed had been 'broken into'.Having read Kalkankath's comment about the police suggesting that the 'break-in' may have been 'staged' I am now starting to wonder if there is a link between some of the break-ins and certain management agencies (maybe there are some crooked employees that the agencies are unaware of)

Hi phylly45, I would be very interested in who this lady was who you came across. From personal knowledge we know that alot of these agencies and one or two inparticular have a VERY high staff turn over and keys are left around the offices for all to have a chance of using. Also we know of one agency who have other businesses in Kalkan who allow their staff to live in some of the properties they manage
and move them out when the owners are about to arrive, also they are known to store property from their business in the houses, and this one has British connections!!!!

Re: Break-ins

That last comment I am very interested in.......... I am trying to think which management company had other businesses............

Perhaps we should name and shame?

I really know nothing about property management, but would baulk at using an unregistered company and staff with no work permits. I am not suggesting that they are not what they seem, but caution should always be excercised.

I'm not sure it would be fair to 'name and shame' as we don't have any proof only our 'suspicions',although I will say the lady that I was referring to did have British connections.
