New restaurant
Found this comment in travel-library, some people just can't resist an Indian when abroad - give me Turkish food anytime. At least it's somewhere new to try!
Masala Zone - by XXX from United Kingdom - 2007-04-24
"Had an awesome night at this new and exciting Indian. Service was excellent and the people were really nice. I will be recommending this place to all friends who visit Kalkan. Great views of the sea as the Indian is on the beach front at Kalkan."

Re: New restaurant
İ love Turkish food too but find the menus locally very samey - and actually quite boring. İt seems that the chefs all seem stuck in their comfort zones!! İ'm no chef but can follow a recipe and have enjoyed İndian and Chinese food at home made with ingredients all available here in Turkey - so surely a trained chef can get a bit more adventurous.
Don't know if a Chinese or İndian would be successful here in Yalikavak but İ definitely think one with a more İnternational flavour would be welcomed. İ love İndian food - my absolute favourite. (Having watched A Place in France series where they tried İndian food on the French one of the things they came up against is that French people are fiercely proud of their cuisine and not very interested in others - and İ think the same could be said about Turkish folks )

Re: New restaurant
Why do we Brits. always, when away abroad, want what we can have in England. Can understand the resident Brits. missing various foods, but if you are away for only a short period surely you can go without for a while. The Chinese restaurant has been trying for years to make a go of it in Kalkan without much luck and now it appears to have gone totally, Do we really want Kalkan looking like the the larger holiday areas of Turkey with MacDonalds, Indian etc eating places, we do not which is why we have continued to to go to Kalkan and enjoy our house etc. if we wanted that we could stay in England. There are too many eating places in Kalkan already.

Re: New restaurant
I'm looking forward to trying it when I go on 7th June,
the trouble with the Chinese ('Shang Hai' I think it was called just set back on a wooden platform off Kalamar Rd) was the slow service, extremely high prices and very small portions.
it was by far the most expensive meal we had last year in Kalkan, and that's taking into account Aubergine, Trading Post, Oz Alp, Arena etc but not counting the Oz Adana and Ali Baba type cheaper ones.
people will always look for what's familiar, and Indian restaurants are just that to most of us. The guy who runs it is from Pakistan actually,
we'll soon see if it's a runner anyway by the end of the season, if people don't welcome an Indian restaurant there they simply wont use it, and next season we'll see another newcomer.
I just hope we don't get any karoake bars personally !

Re: New restaurant
When we are in England we all enjoy a variety of foods from all different countries so there is no reason why you should not enjoy other foods when you are away from home. As it happens I also have a house in Kalkan so I am not just a visitor. I know lots of residents in Kalkan who cook Indian foods etc for themselves in their own homes so I think there is a good chance an Indian restaurant would be well used.

Re: New restaurant
İ agree with Sally New - you dont have to eat Turkish all the time when in Kalkan. İ tried the Masala zone restaurant two nights ago and found the food excellant. Mother is cooking just the way she does at home. One word of warning - the mossies are rampant so lıberal spraying is neccesary before you go.
