Mozzy Killer Van...?
Hi All
Friends of ours just returned from Kalkan report a campaign to reduce the mozzy problem by mass spraying using a van/truck with a diffuser spraying as it drives about the village.
Does anyone know if this is working?
Or indeed if its true.... Sounds wierd. (What would they use - DDT? Or Avon skin so soft...)
Any views?
Tim

Hi,
They've been doing this for years. It does work to keep the mossies down but doesn't eradicate them. Must be DDT-skin-so-soft doesn't work as my legs will bear out, at least ten bites on each. Back to Sinkov!

Re: Mozzy Killer Van...?
Highly carcinogenic, banned in many countries, and not really very effective.

l don't like the idea of of this kind of method of spraying because, what sort of effect will it have on the other bugs, birds, the whole of the wildlife, and also us,did they look into the advantages and disadvantages.l was outside on the balcony enjoying a drink,[and there was a wind]when the spray came around the chemical slowly moved over my property making me cough with a quick exit indoors, this was last year,l haven't seem any of this kind of spraying this year, yet.

Re: Mozzy Killer Van...?
As Rosehillgirl states its been going on for many years, used to be nearly every evening when the mozzies were at their very worst, we were always told it was DDT, and having been out when they have sprayed now always cover face as it also smells like it.

Re: Mozzy Killer Van...?
We have had one spraying so far this year and really I feel it does no help at all as that night I was bitten several times more than usual even though we also have plug ins in the house, a mosquito light outside and use repellent spray. Maybe the spray only helps at the lower levels and since we live on the 4th floor is does not work as well up here? Either way I do have to agree it smells horrible.

I don't know what chemical they use, but one of the reasons they mix it with burnt diesel is to stop it rising and disappearing too quickly. It's the diesel smoke that's heavier than air and also carcinogenic.

Re: Mozzy Killer Van...?
Just had a week in Dalyan - on the outskirts and my legs were bitten to high heavens despite eating Marmite months before and using Mosquito Milk and even Sinkov. I reckon the blighters were active during the day in the hotel garden. Ken
