Kalkan in May.
Hello,
We are going to Kalkan after a ten year absence at the end of May and I'm concerned it will have changed a lot.
Has anyone got any recent photos they can let me see?
We are staying in the Beyhan appt's on the Kalamar Rd
Also we need a transfer from Dalaman ......Aegean flights permitting!!
Who are a good reliable company?
We are travelling with smallish children so need reliability.
Many thanks ...in advance....

Re: Kalkan in May.
You will still love Kalkan. It has changed with a lot of development on the mountainsides but the "essential" Kalkan remains the same. Good restaurants and a friendly welcome to all. Have a look at www.enjoykalkan.com they have lots of info and links to transfers and other places of interest in the locale.

Re: Kalkan in May.
Our very first holiday in Turkey was to Kalkan, it was fantastic. The location , the people were so friendly the restuarants amazing. We really loved the whole experience. Now we are home owners in Dalaman it seem so long ago that we were there so this summer we are going to revisit Kalkan and see how much it has changed.

Re: Kalkan in May.
We went to Kalkan 2 years ago and it was still very beautiful.
Its another one of our favourite places in Turkey.
The only thing we found after having a break for a couple of years from there was the prices had increased in restaurants and shops, maybe due to there being very upmarket boats moored in the harbour area. (that there wasn't so much of a few years ago)
We always stayed in the Patara Prince Resort which was fantastic - so we had a short resort boat ride across to Kalkan town.
We hope to visit again one day....
Did anyone else here/read about the mini tornado near Kalkan today?

Yes, Richnkim, I saw the photos on the enjoykalkan website... awesome!! Fabulous photographs of the progress of the tornado across the bay and in land at Kalamar bay. Not heard of how much damage was caused but hopefully not too much.

JoanH: Please see the below article.
Mini Tornado Causes Damage
Wednesday, 12 March 2008
One of our roving reporters, returning from a choppy Meis visa run, reported that a mini tornado struck the village of Yesilkoy near Kalkan this afternoon. The tornado was clearly visible from the bus reporter was travelling on and amazed the other other passengers. The tornado took with it various roofs as it passed over the small village and also turned over a lorry and caused a car to crash on the main road. Thankfully the bus was unscathed.
The heavy rain only lasted around one and half hours between 2:00pm and 3:30pm this afternoon in Fethiye and the evening is, so far, dry but cool and cloudy.
It was only last Sunday that we warned, despite the warm and settled weather, that March still had some more storms to throw at us. In this case we were right thanks to the predictions of the 2,000 year old Coptic weather calendar.

Re: Kalkan in May.
We were in Kalkan in early October 2005 when a mini tornado went right down the main street and across the bay at night. It sounded like a plane was landing, nobody was hurt but several roof terraces were destroyed and heavy patio furniture lifted and disappeard!!! By the following evening the restaurants affected were open again.

Re: Kalkan in May.
Just returned from Kalkan, it is still a fantastic place, and the restuarants are so fantastic.
Alternatif has been rebuilt this year, and is looking very clean and smart, it is also has a new chief, and a new menu. We have eaten there for many years, but this new chief has had a big impact, we ate there most nights and found something new every night.
The ambiance was great for an evening out, and the waiters were happy and friendly, on wife's birthday they really pushed the boat out, and made it a really special evening for her.

Re: Kalkan in May.
Thank you for all the replies.
We go to Kalkan on Sunday.
My kids are very excited as it is their first visit.
I can't wait to go either as I haven't been to Turkey for 10 years and I have missed it badly.
Only hope the Onur flight isn't too bad.....
