More about Kalkan please
I was remarking on the forum yesterday that if I had had a few bob I would liked to have built in drop dead gorgeous Kalkan. (land and property was substantially dearer there than where we did build)
Each time we visit that area I am more impressed every time
So come on Kalkanites tell us a bit more about life down that gorgeous area

Re: More about Kalkan please
Kalkan seems to be very addictive with lots of repeat visitors. It has lots of private villa and apartment accomodation and hasn't gone down the all inclusive large hotel route. It's really pretty, but hilly, so not too good for anyone with mobility problems. Despite not having sandy beaches it doesn't seem to suffer for this in terms of appeal, after all Patara isn't far away. It's expat community is growing each year but this is probably still small compared to some other places and the number of facilities staying open in the winter is also growing. It has a massive number of restaurants for the size of the town(over 100 I believe) from cheap and cheerful up to those that wouldn't be out of place in a city. As it's a hilly horseshoe bay many restaurants have excellent views. Many people consider it to be an upmarket, sophisticated resort. Kalkan tends to attract an older profile of visitors or families and tends not to have drunk or abusive visitors consequently the Turkish people don't seem to have become jaded with tourists and are lovely, warm and welcoming.
The drive to Kas is fabulous, alongside the sea all the way and Kas is also lovely but has a more bohemian feel.
I'm not an expat but visit our apartment 3 times a year, letting it out the rest of the time (very well booked with a considerable number of repeat visitors).

Re: More about Kalkan please
I like to pop over to Kalkan occasionally. I like the harbour area but to be honest could never live there (sorry Kalkan Regular).
I find the amount of British there quite overwhelming and it really annoys me that the shops and restaurants display their prices in Sterling.
When I first visited it over 15 years ago it was so pretty and rustic, it was one of the places I considered moving to but was put off by the hills.
At that time the Brits hadn,t "discovered" it.
I think though, the standard of the restaurants is very high (which reflects in the prices)
so can see why it appeals to certain people.

Re: More about Kalkan please
Philip, if it was a bar, that sounds like Deja Vu.
If a restaurant then Teras, which is next door.
As you say, fabulous views - so calming and relaxing.
And people ask me why I don,t go back to the UK for treatment.....
If I,m going to be unwell, it may as well be somewhere stunning
