The "people from the east" usually get the blame here in Fethiye too. It is handy for the locals to blame someone other than their own community. Locals 'in the know' are of the opinion that most crime is home grown.

Agree with you Immac its easy to blame others but in this case it was a family i had known for years and the son since he was a baby
granted they took nothing of mine only our guests
but they still entered my property people that i thought were my friends
and i have come to like and respect over the years

hi cath sorry to hear about your break in it such a shame. But it happens the world over. just a fact of life i guess. They will just end up putting people of buying property over there. which in the end will will not help their community
cheers and a happy xmass and new year

I agree with you 100% Ian.
Cath that must have been such a horrible experience for you. It could happen anywhere but I think it must be really awful if it's someone you know.

Re: break ins in kalkn
Hi
Mikkie
Just to say we have had our villa broken into 3 times, we are letting our villa to Holidaymakers
I think the locals see them as easy pickings. They just take cash and cameras etc anything easy to carry.
We have now fitted grills to both the doors and windows we have also fitted a safe.
Such a shame that we have had to go to these lengths in beautiful Kalkan.

This seems to be a growing problem everywhere that has foreign owners. Perhaps we are seen as targets because we are perceived as all being wealthy!! I know that there is now several alarm and security shops opening up in other resorts and quite a few people are bringing over DIY security kits from B&Q to install.

Re: break ins in kalkn
My place has single glazed wooden windows and wooden shutters. We will just buy extra locks for now and make shutters and windows secure as possible. Our place is on a secure complex and guard etc, not that probably means much, lol. We may buy a small safe and put that in the room we sleep in and put our phones, wallets, passports in there. Then put a decent lock on bedroom door and lock that when we sleep. If someone breaks in while we are there we will be locked in room with our valubles and if they try and kick door down or something, we will be woken up by the noise. We will not be putting much in our house so if they want to nick things, the only things will be a fridge/freezer, washing machine, lol. I would like to see them dragging that over the security fence or get that past the security guard in his hut,lol
We will put upvc windows and doors on in time and maybe bars, or metal shutters that look wooden. As other people say on here, they are after mobile phones and cash. In Spain we rented a villa that had wooden doors and when we went out, people broke in by crow barring front door open. The door frame just split and the door only had one lock. They took our clothes, hand luggage bags, tv, stereo, sun glasses and some cd's. Think they were after cash but when they did not find any they took other stuff instead. As our front door etc is only wooden, we will add extra locks as it is better than nothing.

Re: break ins in kalkn
Hi,
I have heard of thieves blowing of the security grills on front doors. Also, they are using a kind of gas as weel that drugs the occupants whilst sleeping! Pretty disturbing stuff.
My parents are always telling me off for keeping my villa like fort Knox whilst there, even locking the security grill on the front door when i am in the villa. You cnnot be too careful, it takes a split second for an opportunist to take something.
Now i know why there are so many barking dogs that our Turkish neighbours have. I shall not be moaning about them keeping me up at night whilst on Holiday. It will make me more aware. Never let your guard down eh!
Cheers
Lorraine
