Bitten

Hi peeps, recently ventured out on a trip from Side to Kas by car (thanks to those who provided various info). Took a week, and stayed at some great places along the way. Whilst in Kas, ventured out to Patara beach (20K from Kalkan) - excellent spot, with great swimming etc - that is until both I and my wife were bitten in the sea. Didn't hang around to see what it was - we rather bolted, but now wondering what it could have been. It felt hard & big ? Drew blood with a gash on my leg, my wife got away with what looked like a bite mark which caused bruising, but didn't break the skin.

So, any ideas what it could have been ? Probably too high in the water to have been a crab, and I really can't see it being a fish.... Have seen sea snakes, but never heard of one biting? I know this beach is used (and protected) by and for turtles - but their hatching season should be over now and I've not heard of them biting but.....

Re: Bitten

It sounds as though it could have been a turtle but you would hardly be able to miss one of those as they are big and dark and relatively slow moving. In shallow water you couldn't help but see it.
More than likely a big fish they are fast well camouflaged and have a tendency to rush in and bite and be gone before you recover enough to look for it.
I've been bitten a few times like this and they do feel hard especially with the impact of their attack.
