Can I pick your brains.......

Hi everyone, so glad that I've found this site. I am in the process of buying an apartment in Kalkan and would love some advice.

The apartment we are hoping to buy is mostly furnished, but we will need to buy a sofabed, a dining table & chairs and some sun lougers. Can anyone recommend where I can get these items from? Is there a good shop in Kalkan or will I need to go further afield? We will be letting the apartment so although we want it to look nice and be comfortable we don't want to break the bank.

The other thing is the gas. Can anyone tell me how much the gas cylinders cost, how long they last, and are they delivered to your apartment? I'm totally inexperienced as far as these gas cylinders go, so any advice would be appreciated.

If there's any other advice you can give me about anything else to do with buying in Kalkan then it'll be very gratefully received.....thanks.

Chritine at Yuksel estates sells good quality furniture in kalkan .She is scottish married to a turk and is very helpful. There is also a big Kelebek store on the road to Kas.

Dont know how much gas cylinders are but not expensive and there is a shop that sells gas cylinders and delivers just below the sevil supermarket.

Most things available in Kalkan

Enjoy - Kalkan is a superb place

Try hoping on the dolmus down to Kas, where the prices are generally cheaper. There is a very large Istikbal furniture shop in Kas under the big mosque on the road out of Kas opposite the Otogar. Generally shopping/household goods are cheaper in Kas, and they will deliver to Kalkan foc. Also there is an Ikea opening in Antalya early summer so might be worth a visit.

Hi jen73
We have bought through Black Lion. Waiting for the Tapu to come through. No complaints, Bridget and Sakir have been good throughout. We also used Christing at Yuksel for furniture, bedding etc.

Thanks, it puts your mind at ease to hear from other people who've done the same thing, especially when they don't have any horror stories.

I've heard a lot of people mention Christine at Yuksel. Is that the store on the right as you go out of Kalkan towards the petrol station?

Re: Can I pick your brains.......

Hi Jen73,

we are only on the seconds gas cylinder since 2003 in our apartment in Kalkan,
it's hooked up for the gas hob only.
We have probably spent 15 weeks there since 2003 and we do cook, not much in the evenings but proper Turkish breakfasts every morning and light meals, and that includes visits from my Turkish mother in law who cooks to feed an army !

We also used Bridget and Sakir @ Black Lions, it seems a long time ago now, 2003, but there weren't many emlaks in Kalkan then. Our purchase went very smoothly, helps that we're both Turkish nationals, but our friends also used them and were very happy also.
Enjoy your nest building, we got some of our white goods from Christine @ Yuksel too, delivery same day and washing machine plumbed in straight away, great, just like the UK !
