Thank God I found Kalkan first!

BBC 1 showing a program called "Holiday Hit Squad" they showed Marmaris last week and Bodrum this week, I dare say had we found either of these first we would never have gone back to Turkey. Thank God we found Kalkan!
Having said that they also showed «ıralı, we have stayed there and it is beautiful.

Having also been to both Marmaris and Bod Penn I can see why property is dearer down this end

Re: Thank God I found Kalkan first!

When we first came to Turkey 16+ years ago we stayed at Ortakent on the Bodrum Peninsula in a small hotel on the beautiful Yasi Beach. It was a wonderful place and we fell in love with Turkey right there.

I imagine that over the years since our last visit it has become more developed - one of our Turkish friends here comes from Ortakent and says we wouldn't recognise it.

Even Hisaronu was quaint once!

Very true.

Remember it when it was a very small mountain village with few houses let alone shops/ bars and Ovacik was non existent

Well ruined now

Re: Thank God I found Kalkan first!

No Carolyn you wouldn’t recognise it at all, even if it were only six years since your last visit to Yahsi. Turkey does not stand still and Bodrum is no exception. However next month would be the time that beach areas are beginning to get smartened up but with a new all encompassing Mayoral system, it’s hard to know what will happen. No doubt something will be done but right now no one knows who will be doing it.

With regard to Ortakent/Yahsi, the development here over the last six years is staggering. The place is being made ready for the affluent city retirees with money. The trouble now is they may not have that money for much longer and the landscape will change again with empty retail units and offices. This is probably a gloomy outlook on the future but right now it’s sadly more realistic.

Rest assured though, Yahsi will be crowded with Turks on holiday as usual and I will be down there getting my share of the sunshine.

Hisaronu is a disaster and not what Turkey is all about.

Re: Thank God I found Kalkan first!

The op is a lucky sod

Kalkans the posh part of this end of Turkey. I like to think of Fethiye as the best part, Olu as the most scenic coastal part and Uzumlu as the......well deadest part!!!!

We have a place in Dalaman but quite enjoy Hisuronu. The tranny show is very amusing so why not enjoy it. Each unto his own as they say in Macclesfield.
