Solicitors Fees
Hi
We are in the process of buying an apartment in Kalkan and would appreciate some advice on solicitors fees.We have just paid the deposit and signed the contracts and have just received our first e-mail from our solicitor requesting full payment for his services. Is it normal to pay the solicitor in full before even paying the second stage payment?

Re: Solicitors Fees
Its normal to pay the solicitor the full amount for whatever you have requested him him to do for you, his fee has nothing to do with any staged payments you may be making to the builder or estate agent for the purchase of your property

Re: Solicitors Fees
So am I right in thinking that once the contracts are submitted there's no longer any need for a solicitor?

Re: Solicitors Fees
Yes that’s correct. The only time you may need him, and hopefully you won't, would be in the event that whoever the contract is with fail to fulfil their obligations.
There are other times where the solicitor may be used such as "power of attorney

Re: Solicitors Fees
Thanks speedy,it just seemed strange (and daunting) to pay the solicitor before receiving the title deeds.

Re: Solicitors Fees
You will probably have to wait several months for the TAPU (deed). We started buying in October 05 and only received our TAPU last week!

with the new law in place, Deeds are coming through a lot quicker than previously so fingers crossed it won't be too long a wait

Re: Solicitors Fees
We gave our solicitor power of attorny incase we could not get out to Turkey when our Tapu comes through. We have paid him £150 so far for what he has done. So it maybe a good idea to keep your solicitor and have him P.O.T if you think you cannot get out to Turkey when your tapu is ready. My hubby is really busy at work, so we decided having pot was a good idea.

Re: Solicitors Fees
Our solicitor is charging £650 for what he has already done i,e submitted the signed contracts,I'm not sure how much extra he will charge for power of attorney as well.

Re: Solicitors Fees
£650 solicitor fees in Turkey is very expensive, the going rate in Altinkum is about £200
