Blair Says I Apologise

The extraordinary confession by the former Prime Minister came during a TV interview (in which he is pictured centre, top left and bottom left) about the 'hell' caused by his and George Bush's decision to oust Saddam Hussein in 2003. In the exchange, Blair (pictured top right with British troops in Basra in Iraq in 2003) repeatedly says sorry for his conduct. Speaking to the camera, he says: 'I apologise for the fact that the intelligence we received was wrong. I apologise for some of the mistakes in planning and, certainly, our mistake in our understanding of what would happen once you removed the regime' (transcript shown bottom right). He is also challenged that the Iraq War led to the rise of ISIS and admits: 'I think there are elements of truth in that.' But despite referring to claims that the invasion was a war 'crime', Blair insists he has not committed one.

Re: Blair Says I Apologise

It is a very qualified apology. Nothing much to do with him, but those people who gave him poor advice and guidance. And, whatever the mistakes, he tells us with all sincerity, he has got rid of Sadam and probably stopped it developing into another Libya. So why are we not thanking him and worshipping at his feet (you can see he wants to ask the question, but those pesky advisors will not let him)?

The media are seeing it as part of the manīs spin in advance of Chilcot. What a weasel he is.

Re: Blair Says I Apologise

I see it in part as a hedge fund owned media doing anything it can to demonise the Labour party in particular , and anyone else that opposes the Tories .

The tories were baying to go to war , even the Shadow home Secretary told parliament the he personally knew Saddam had 200 weapons of mass destruction.

Saddam was a war monger , repeatedly invading sovereign states and carrying out genocidal wars against his own people.

Shame he was not wiped out first time.

Good riddance.

Cameron could be making the same speech in a few years IF we get too deep in Syria.

Surely there are enough Jackals about in Special Ops to take these tyrants out as & when needed? Instead we seem to await a full blown war to have them removed.

It could well be.

Whilst "Operation Fear" keeps being thrown at the West, we will unfortunately continue our forays into the ME. It seems that phrase of "nipping it in the bud" just don't work anymore. Whether or not that's down to arms sales is anyone's guess but there's mega bucks involved out there. Oil, arms & the good old IMF standing in the shadows.

Re: Blair Says I Apologise

I don't think he actualy apologised and I don't think he should .
Very careful reporting and a highly focused selective use of words.
