Kalkan - An Observer Hotspot
The Observer had an article this week on Mediterranean Hotspots and listed Kalkan. They also recommended a restaurant called Curu but the only detail they gave was that it was a 5 minute drive from Kalkan. Has anyone been to this restaurant or know more about its location?
If anyone's interested then the link to the article in The Observer is here;

Re: Kalkan - An Observer Hotspot
Hi Jen,
the proper name of the restaurant is Kuru Nyeri, most people call is Kuru's place.
It's only a simple family run place but the location and seating (turkish style) makes it a relaxing shay place to be whe it's baking hot.
Ask if you can go up to the pansiyon roof terrace to see the view from there. spectacular, there is young lad named Hussain in the family that runs it, he should be back from National Sevice now and will show you.
Their baby spinach gozleme is delicious, the ladies pick the tint spinach leaves fresh
from the garden to order.
It's just on the firts real bend at the top of the hill on the way to Kas, on the right hand side as you go to Kas.
regards
Linda

Re: Kalkan - An Observer Hotspot
Hi Sparrow,
the Kalkan Regency hotel is next door to our apartment in Kalkan, in fact the two ground floor apartments in our block are also owned by the Regency.
I have never stayed at the Regency for obvious reasons but I can vouch for the food, the view and the service, spectacualr.
I read an article which described Kalkan as Hampstead on Sea, it's getting that way, saw quite a few posh ladies in the market this June with their Turkish maids in tow, the maids carrying all the food shopping, while the women twittered on about how 'one would never visit a market in London'.
I think of Kalkan as a bit like a cute toddler now, charming at the moment, but as it grows and the more outside influence it gets, just like when your child starts school, you know it will change forever. Hope my ananlogy is not too obscure.
Anyway, it's still a great place, the scenery is breathtaking, well worth a visit if you are nearby.
Regards
Linda

Re: Kalkan - An Observer Hotspot
 Hi Linda,
When reading all this, I'm very tempted to go to the restaurant, is it far from Kas ? I would take a buss to Kalkan (I doubt I will get a lift back home when I stay in Kas )
I will be staying in Kas for two or three days in September, so I might go and see is, and I for sure want to see Kalkan, I have been reading too much good about it.
I know what you mean by getting spoiled, but then, a little bit of exclusiveness is not too bad either, when place grow to popular , it isn't nice either.
I have been to Kas last year, I quite liked it, and I didn't see anything posh about it, but I guess Kas is less expensive than Kalkan, isn't it ?
I hope to stay at the Aqau Princess hotel in Kas, looks quite nice too, but nothing compared to Regency of course...
thanks for you answer...

Re: Kalkan - An Observer Hotspot
Hi Sparrow,
the dolmus from Kas will drop you at Kuru's place, it's virtually in Kalkna so about 20 min's from Kas, more possibly on the dolmus but a taxi wouldn't be too expensive from Kas,
hope you enjoy your visit
