Kalkan crime wave

Our villa in Kalkan has been broken into 3 times in 2 years (twice while we asleep) .I have heard reports of many other villas been burgled recently . Looks like they see Kalkan as easy pickings they only take money ,cameras etc.
The jandama were hot on there heals Knocking us up at 4 am. to show us the window frame had been ripped out!!
There seems to be a real crime wave going on - a real shame for Kalkan

With more and more Europeans buying on complexes etc, it makes an easy target for these uneducated crimminals who beleive the Europeans have a bottomless pit of money.
It is important to learn from these thefts and crimminal activities and secure apartments and villas accordingly, paticularly if you are on a low level floor which are easy to access via balconys. There are great prices for security grills and shutters here and also camera systems will deter most.
If neighbourhoods work together and llok out for each others apartment when its left empty it should halt the crime or at least be enough to prevent them from accessing your property easily.

Hi All
I saw this item on QVC shopping channel a week or so a go, It's not an alarm system as such but you set up the PIR's and when some one approach your house they give an audible sound, the volume can be increased so when it triggers of at night it should wake you up

There are some very good items like this on the market

Item Number 555143

Voltek GS250 Wireless External PIR Intruder Alarm

Stay Safe

Burglary is common in Fethiye and they are after cash, gold, phones, watches and credit cards. Police told me (burgled twice this year) that they generally don't want anything bulky, and the sort of thing our own thieves in UK want, like TVs and DVDs, are rarely taken.
Police also were of the opinion that it was being done by women, but I didn't understand their reasoning.

Did they pinch your make-up Ian?!! Only joking. Yes I live in Fethiye and have been burgled twice, both times I was asleep. They spray you with something to keep you that way. Scariest thing for me was that they took my mobile phone and that was on my dressing table next to the bed. When the police came the next day they picked up an old video I had borrowed from a friend called 'Personal Services' (The Cynthia Payne story about prostitution) on the cover is a woman totally dressed sexily in black leather complete with thigh length boots. I was asked if it was mine....then asked if I drank whisky? Don't know why I can't stand the stuff. They didnt bother with fingerprints either!!

I'd just like to ask if the members on this thread who have had property burgled had security grills fitted at the time. I know that some people think it can't happen to them, but, take a look around at your Turkish neighbours, if they have grills fitted it's necessary.
Gordy.
P.S. Lorraine's out for the day, so I can play with the computer. HA-HA.

I live on the third floor so they didn't come through the window, just smashed down the front door. They also did the rest of the apartments in the block in the same way, except for one that had a metal security door. Now we all have new metal doors.
