Automatic water payments

We have just received an email from Garanti bank who we use in Turkey to automatically pay our water and electric bills etc, and have been told that as from the 1st January the automatic payment to the water sevice are all being cancelled and that we have got to make other arrangements has any one else got this and know what to do?

Re: Automatic water payments

We have never been able to setup water bill payments on a standing order as Garanti told us it was not possible and that we could only pay electric by standing order. Although I would continue to use Garanti as they are quite helpful, every so often they stop paying our electric bills and I have to pay them manually using online banking. Not sure why.

We have never been able to pay the water bill through Garanti, we were always told it wasn't possible and all our friends also pay their water directly. A bit silly really as we pay all our other bills by standing order through the bank

Stevie,

There was talk on another thread that Halk Bank and Ak Bank were the only banks continuing to pay water bills by direct debit.

Don't know how true this is or not, but might be worth a try. I'm going to check with these banks next time I'm in Didim.

Thanks for the confirmation, Summertime,

I'll be heading there to open an account when I'm over.

Re: Automatic water payments

Does it depend on which water company you are with? I pay mine (Fethiye Su) through Garanti and have not been told it is being stopped.

Ian

PS Just checked the Garanti on-line banking and they are still listing dozens of water companies that they will pay to.
