Water meter

Has any one else had experience of being asked to move water meter outside due to meter reader being concerned of excited dog barking. Dog Is immediately put on a lead if somebody comes to the gate and is a small very friendly dog just gets exited if somone at gate. Meter reader phoned his boss who said could we move meter to outside of property, at our own cost. Just wondered if they have the power to impose this.

Re: Water meter

Yes, we have. I refused and will not do it. Especially as we have not paid 400TL in 3 years to the lecky board as we generate our own. They are just trying it on. Generally we are here and tie the dogs up, but on one occasion we were out. Total nonsense, ignore it. Our notice was 2 years ago, and no further action.

Re: Water meter

If bills are not being paid they will cut you off - they can do this without asking any official or court.
Unfortunately dog owners always see their pooch as being very friendly, but others do not see it in the same way, and there is no reason why they should have to. If you remove the dog inside, why would he object?

Re: Water meter

The principal is the same whether it is water or lecky, why should you pay to have it moved if you are there to control the dog. Our postman stops his van even when we don't have post just to stroke our dogs, yet the lecky reader is scared.

I would have it moved, then there would be no risk of the meter reader unintentionally leaving your gate open and having your little dog go walkabout.

My daughter's meter is just outside of the bottom gate of her huge garden. She has 3 large dogs that are free in the garden each and every day, only being kenelled each evening. The water meter is read without a problem, she has peace of mind because her dogs remain safe and the meter reader has no chance of being enthusiastically jumped on, pushed over or licked all over before he'd have any chance of making it through the garden.

You'll only have to move it once and it won't cost mega bucks.

Re: Water meter

Thanks, bills are being paid, this is the only one occasion this has happened in seven years. We always able to control dog on lead or put her inside. Appears severe request for one occasion, just wondered if any other people have been asked. Thanks for your replies.

Re: Water meter

Another alternative would be for you to read the meter and go and pay the bill at the offices twice a year. We often do that for water.

Re: Water meter

Apparently all new builds have to have their metres outside.
Another alternative is to have a card meter. You get your card topped up at the water office, insert it into your meter and press a button, done! I have one and it saves anyone coming in the garden to read the meter. Don't ask me about cost though, it was in the house before I came to Toparlar.

With three, large, bouncy dogs, we've found this works well and avoids the difficulties of the mandatory, leave the gate open policy of all who visit!
