I don't know if there are any regulations here in Turkey regarding Health & Saftey. I have seem thousands of potential accidents awaiting to happen because of lack of knowledge of saftey and/or lack of enforcing it. Do they or can they sue in this country for things like this? Terrible it happened though still.

Re: Young girl dies in fall
I doubt that there would be much in the way of Health & Safety legislation in Turkey. They don't seem to have a compensation culture. Anyway, all the money in the world can't bring someone back to life.
Nevertheless, that is a good question. What if someone received a crippling injury in rented accommodation on on a public thoroughfare?

Re: Young girl dies in fall
I notice elevators don't have a inspection period or anything other then weight limits. Holes in the sidewalks here in Ankara big enough to hide a small army. I seen in the news recently where a two year old boy got his head stuck between two cement pillars on a balcony, the fire department had to break the pillar to remove him. Do the baby cribs here have to meet saftey requirements for the distance between the vertical rails for example? I remember in Turgutreis there were several large water wells that were just open holes in the ground. These are hugh actualy , maybe 3 meters across or more, very dangerous for anyone, especially a child.
Things won't change until people, companies or government have to pay for damages/injury/death through a legal system.... JMHO

Re: Young girl dies in fall
Now, this is weird, this is what I read on the website of Kent Haber, say a website with all kind of local news from different cities : " Sır intihar " , meaning "a secret suicide"
The article claims that the girl commited suicide by JUMPING from the 5th floor of the hotel where she stayed, and that it still is not known why she commited suicide and that an investigation will be hold....
Strange, isn't it ? Is this a way of Kuşadası of concealing the facts or did she really commit suicide ?
(I hereby also paste the whole article for those who's Turkish is more accurate then mine :
Kuşadasında İrlanda uyruklu bir turisti, kaldığı otelin 5. katından atlayarak intihar etti. Edinilen bilgiye, İrlandanın başkenti Dublinden Kuşadasında tatil için gelen ve Kadınlar Denizinde bir otelde kalan 20 yaşındaki Mary Linnone isimli bayan turist, henüz belirlenemeyen bir nedenden dolayı kaldığı otelin 5. katından atlayarak intihar etti.
İrlandalı genç bayan turist olay yerinde hayatını kaybederken, intihar nedeni ise belirlenemedi. Kuşadası Cumhuriyet Savcılığı olayla ilgili soruşturma başlattı.

Re: Young girl dies in fall
Who knows, Nadine. Truth or not, it can only heap more heartache on the poor girl's family. I heard that there was part of the balcony on the ground where she fell, but that is only hearsay.

Re: Young girl dies in fall
Well, it is very unlikely the family will read that site,
Still, I'm intrigued by the fact if they would write this just to cover up that there was something wrong with the balcony of that appartment....

Re: Young girl dies in fall
that is strange Nadine..earlier i posted about a girl that fell from the hotel opposite us..she was with 5 other girls..and i remember thinking as they were all on the balcony and singing ..in fact they were singing down to us..one of our boys was flirting with them..and the girl that fell was much taller than the others and i wished she would get back from the edge.. they were all happy, dancing and singing ..and then she toppled over .
Afterwards there was a pm...and then the priest and parents came from Sweden and they had a service before taking her back home.
The similarities between this tragedy and the one that Nadine mentions is that they also said that the girl had committed suicide and and it wasn't so...it was an unforgettable accident.
As a follow up to this two years later i had some customers who asked me if i knew about a girl that fell..and i told them the story..it turned out that one of the women who asked me was a friend of the dead girls family..and also the other girls..she said that they had all been very badly affected and were having psychotherapy,so there were awful repercussions from the accident..as i am sure there will be for this poor girls family and friends.

Re: Young girl dies in fall
Nadine: When I said that it would heap more heartache on the family, I meant that their grief will be intensified if it was suicide, just as it will be intensified if, in an attempt to escape blame, people claim that she committed suicide.

Irrespective, whatever the circumstanses, it is tragic for one so young, and for the families n friends involved, we can only share their sorrows.

Re: Young girl dies in fall
Maria, yes I do understand what you mean, it will only hurt them more, one way or another
Shirley, I googled for " sır intihar (secret suicide) " and amazingly enough I did find some hits, all about turist, and the Anlanya case was mentionned as well.
And I didn't feel good about it, even worse : this side of Turkey frightens me : how they start to write plain lies just to cover up something might be wrong....
I remember there was an accident with somebody falling from a balcony in the place where i live (also a touristic place) years ago, nobody doubted about the cause, the hotel had to close several rooms and after the summer all balconies were taken off, quiete a difference, but burası Belçika
