Awful news about the young student nurse who died in a fall from a balcony in Kus on her first visit. God rest her soul and comfort her parents.

Kusadasi (Turkey) tragedy for Mayo's Mary Linnane
Tragically, Irish 20 year old Mary Linnane died when she fell from an apartment in Turkey
On vacation with 11 other friends from Mayo, Mary died from a fall from a holiday apartment in Kusadasi.
She was a nurse student at Dublin City University, and was on her first holiday abroad.
The community in Bellmullet Co.Mayo are completely devastated by the shock news.
Her other 11 friends are obviously very distressed and upset.
Her parents Martin & Kathleen Linnane are heartbroken as are Mary's 4 sisters and 1 brother.
The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and the Irish Embassy and Consulate in Turkey are offering every assistance to the family, and her friends in this difficult time.

how terrible.
i saw this happen in Alanya..a Swedish girl of 18 fell from the balcony of the hotel opposite our restaurant....afterwards they raised the balcony rails.
if you look at a lot of balconies the walls or rails arent high enough to prevent somebody toppling over..
what tragedy.

We stayed at the Garden of Sun in Altinkum earlier this year and I noticed that the balconies were all made from glass which looks lovely but on inspection you will realise it is not reinforced glass and the panels are only held in place by a fixative. Ours was wobbling already and a good shove would have pushed it through...we were 4 floors up! Not suprised something like this has happened, expecially if it was avoidable.

The word here is that there may have been something wrong with the balcony. Sometimes when this kind of tragedy happens people assume that there was high jinks or alcohol involved. Not so in this case.
