Re: Turkish Elections

If Turkey is serious about joining the EU then why do we hear frequent calls to reintroduce the death penalty? That actually says it all.

I remember 8 years ago when we first moved to Turkey RTE was serious about joınıng the EU ... and I always remember thinking it won't happen as he doesn't appear to be someone that will be told what to do, by the EU. xx
Certainly wouldn't suit his style.......
but whilst a Pre-Accession Country......... His Government will receive Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) both in loans, and grants from the EU supposedly for Regional development in transport, environment, regional and economic development.......... handy to string along when your economy is in a mess. 32 years money must have come in handy for Turkey .....

Re: Turkish Elections

Reading in the Turkish press the pressure in Istanbul is on..... The head judge of the YSK has resigned and taken early retirement after onslaught of slander by the pro Govt media targeting her retired judge husband, falsely reporting his links to the outlawed Gulen movement, based solely and falsely it seems on a convicted Gulen supporter having the same family name but no relation....

She will now be replaced by a more compliant Judge from the religiously conservative Fatih District .

What is now at risk is for some inexplicable reason the normally anonymous presiding officers at the counts,.....done to head off any political pressure by the participating political parties have had their anonymity lifted, and their names now public and open to both political party and media scrutiny or pressure similar to the the smears of the YSK exhead's husband ....

Quite a few London based friends both Turkish and Kurdish Turks have said don't be surprised before the election to see a staged ...rally around the President and flag type of event ,like a military incursion into foreign lands or even a terrorist event to fear the electorate into a Nationalist vote and away from the more inclusive Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu

Re: Turkish Elections

Is it possible that £10 000 000 were spent on a website? I wonder who owns the website design company?
