Re: Gassed and Robbed
I think that's disgusting and Goldtrail should be ashamed of themselves.
On another note, I can not understand why anyone going on holiday would want to take so much expensive Jewelry it seems like it's asking for trouble, but none the less not a pleasant experience.
I would think that if some one had been gassed in that way it would also be classed as an assault as well as a burglary, like in Aggravated Burglary, very unnerving.

Re: Gassed and Robbed
i have heard and read of a number of burglaries using sprays...keeps you asleep while they raid your home.
security is of the utmost importance, do it first - 'no point locking the stable door after the horse has bolted'..

Re: Gassed and Robbed
So ? Just how safe is it to live in Turkey ?
Greeny said, I hope buying in Turkey was not a mistake.
Well was it a mistake? There seems to be an awful lot of crime in a country that I was led to believe, Has a Low Crime Rate.
Lots of talk about, as in the UK make sure you keep you place secure, but as Greeny said, I don't have bars on my windows in the UK and don't want them in Turkey.
There is so much talk about Security Grills, whilst looking at property on the net, I cant help thinking some place's look much like a prison with all the bars at the windows, steel doors and safes, I wonder how many people buy a house in the UK and then have all the locks changed ?
I think it's frightening to read that people are actually gassed in their home whilst they sleep, how does the perpetrator do this ? with a spray can? how close do they get to their intended victim? They obviously have no fear.
How long is it before someone die's ?
What is being done about it ? Do they ever catch anyone ? what happen to them ?
In my opinion it doesnt paint A very rosy picture, but I'm sure some one will say it's not a bad as it all sound.........Turkey Does have a Low Crime Rate?
Stay Safe

Re: Gassed and Robbed
Yes Goldtrail should be ashamed of themselves!! That would be £90 for all 3 though not each and its an admin fee. Maybe a young rep who didnt know how to handle things? Just followed the rules? I dont know. Its still a lot safer here than in the UK - I have been burgled too and very nasty it is, but its mainly petty theft....unlike the UK

Hi Raysalaff'
Blimey are you and Greeny over reacting to all this!
If you had the radio on or TV in the UK and heard a report of mugging, filming murders on mobiles, gang rapes or many other things occuring daily in the UK,neither of you would bat an eyelid!!!
Why get so heated about Turkey to the extent of regretting buying there?
Such a knee jerk reaction suggests to me your commitment to a home in Turkey was a little shaky to start with.
Good God there is crime everywhere and as for the security bars ours are ornate and add to the look plus that kind of protection is in a lot of Mediterranean countries that are holiday destinations.
We love the place and so there is crime like in the UK but we arent going to throw our hands up in despair at every reported crime or incident regarding persistent traders, bad hospitals, heavy rain, road accident, bombs etc as you arent absolutely safe anywhere these days so for gods sake lets just enjoy living and Turkey.
If you worry about everything to do with your new home perhaps you shouldnt have bought it in the first place. You take the good with the bad as in the UK but you dont dwell on it!

One reason why Turkey has such an apparantly low crime rate (as in statistics) is because a high number of petty & minor crimes go unreported.
That said, the incidence of violent crime against foreigners is pretty low compared to other countries, a female has a bigger chance of getting her bum pinched in a crowded dolmus than she has of being robbed and raped on her way home from work. I can't quote statistics here, this is simply the observation of folks who have lived in many different countries and now have settled in Turkey.
The majority of Turks are far more honest than in many countries. A Turk will quite happily rob you blind in a business deal but if you dropped your wallet outside his shop, chase you for a mile to give it back. Their rationale, it's up to me to get the best price from you and up to you to get your best price from me. If you make it easy for me, tough. Look at their history, "Turks" have always been traders.
The burglaries etc mentioned on here are generally within areas that have a high number of expat holiday homes. Take Fethiye, the incidence of break in's is pretty low in Ikinci Karagozler (predominantly Turkish area) yet in Calis it appears to be a regular occurence.
So to answer Raysalaff's question, Turkey is as safe as you make it. If you choose to live in an expat enclave, you will be a target for petty crime. This is no different to living in a nice detached house in the U.K. which adjoins a less well off or deprived area. All you can do is take the obvious precautions and hope your burglar isn't so underfed he can slip through the bars...
