Prevention far better....

http://www.turkishestateagents.com/...p?TOPIC_ID=1309

Rather than post in an existing thread I think this deserves a little place on its own.

This post is purely knowledge I have gained whilst living here..... just food for thought.

The practise of renting and occupying vacant "owned" homes does exist. I dont care what anyone says.

The root of the problem normally stems from the period after the house or apartment has been built.

Rather than leave an unsold property vacant for several months,
during that period the builder (in good business practise) uses an agent to glean a little holiday rental income, this can apply winter and summer.

The agent invariably retains a key for access (which again is always common practise).

Once the house is finally sold, the new owner doesnt realise their "NEW" property had been previously rented and several keys by this time are already in circulation with countless ex-tenants and/or agents.

It is therefore imperative that when you acquire any property, you change ALL locks forthwith and preferably fit them yourself or risk the locksmith also retaining a copy and starting the chain again.

You should always buy any new locks outside the town you live in, this way the locksmith will not know your house or you.

i found its pretty easy to change locks just get a good quility barrel from your local hardware shop unscrew one bolt push it out put the new one in..job done, the good quality barrles usually come with 5 keys and a plastic credit card with the no if you ever need replacement keys.

A Kale (manufacturer) good quality will range from 20YTL - 25YTL

Under a tenner - btw I would remove the serial numbers from the keys you will be using daily. Its all too easy for someone to get a copy once they know the number. By all means keep the serial with the spares, in a safe place.
