Sorry Gren.. been busy - bin = thousand and the other a spelling of the soon to be (not new) Turkish lira.
Why mix lingo... I don't know about others but when you are in a multi-lingual context when you are switching back and forth across languages you end up speaking something in-between... Turkilizce. Sorry fopr those who can't follow... its a freudian slip.

I was zapping through the Turkish channels yesterday evening during their 7 oclock news bulletins. They all led with the news that there will be another rise in electricity of 15% on Oct 1st, making a rise for the year of 65%.
Eggs were championed as the months 'zam sampiyonu' with a rise of 22.8% for the month of August.
Taken from Hurriyet newspapers website, here are some figures for Turkish inflation for the month of August.
Eggs 22.8
natural gas 17.08
Lentils 8.02
chicken 5.11
pasta 5.4
milk 5.03
butter 4.31
meat 1.55
peppers and aubergines showed a decrease of 11% last month.

Re: Cost of Living
Last weekend just outside Ankara we found a stretch of road side veggie stands. Three choices of mellons, 2.5 kg for one lira. Tomatoes, peppers, and all other veggies 2 kg for 1 lira. I find that incredibly reasonable. Was great product also.
