Shirley, there was a break down of this in the land of lights recently, if I can find this will post, but of course it does not include the Tapu's that are still in the pipeline and this could amount to a few thousand more.

Re: anybody know the number of expats living in turkey
Shirley I know I saw a break down somewhere, but as this is ever changing i am sure that they are not able to keep up.
I found the article inthe 'Land of Lights' but as it is not online as yet I have retyped it for you. does not give number of which countries have purchased but is interesting reading all the same.
Quote:
Taken from article in 'The Land of lights'
In Alanya number of foreigners owning property reached 6 thousand
In Alanya ther were 10 thousand residences a year and a half ago which number is 130 thousand now. Foriegners have bought a total 6 thousand houses in the town and the proces of property and land have gone up 3 to 4 times.
There is a great boom in residences in the town of Alanya, Antalya. This was brought about by foreign demand for residences in town in the last 5 years. It has been ascertained that during the course of the last 25 thousand new residences were constructed in Alanya and 9 thousand 800 sales were finalized in the last six months of the current year.
Based on the data furnished by the central administration in Alanya and the 17 municipalities in the vicinity, as well as the records of the Turkish Electricity Distribution Inc. (TEDAS) and the Directorate of the Title Deeds, there were 80 thousand residences in the town in 2001 which increased to 120 thousand by the end of 2004 and reached 130 thousand with those constructed during the first 6 months of this year.
It has been established that this boom in real estate was realized primarily in the centre of the town as well as in the Mahmutlar, Kestel, Oba, Kargicak, Tosmur, Avsallar and Türkler districts. The records of the Alanya Directorate of the Title Deeds reveal a continuous upward trend in annual sales. Last year approximately 12 thousand sales were finalized whereas 9 thousand 800 sales were made during the first 6 months of the current year, with an average daily purchase of 100-120 flats. It was stated that 5 thousand 774 flats have been sold to foreigners in Alanya since 1997. With the sales during the last 15 days included, this figure has reached 6 thousand.
Kerim Taç the cahirman of the Alanya chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that the total residences in Alanya, including those not having received licences as yet, were over 150 thousand, and that the prices of properties had increased approximately 4 fold. Taç commented that the price for a flat was about 20-25 thousand Euro in 2002 which increased to 80-100 thousand Euro in the centre of Alanya, and is expected to increase further in forthcoming years. Taç added that the number of residences bought by Europeans in Alanya was over 6 thousand and taking into account those awaiting deeds and licenes, this figure would reach 8 thousand in a short while and even reach 10 thousand in a few years. The interest indicated in this sector resulted in an increase in those involved in the real estate and construction fields. Until 5 years ago, there were 20-30 construction companies and real estate agents, now there are over 600..

As if you would add the folks still waiting for their title deeds, the figure would be differently.
