Better deal

When we are over in the Bodrum area my wife always goes to the same salon for a manicure, pedicure and have her hair done. The last time we went I left her in the salon,as the manicurist hadn't turned up,but when she was told my wife was waiting she came very quickly.I had to go and pick up our tapu from solicitor, and as my wife never carries money on holiday,I gave her some, roughly what she had been quoted and enough for a tip.On my return,my wife was almost finished, and I showed her the tapu, the manicurist seeing this asked to see the tapu which she then showed to her husband who is the hairdresser,he looked at it and said everything was in order, the thing is when she paid,it was much less than she was quoted, which in itself wasn't a lot,we felt that we were being priced as locals because we had bought property. Has anyone else felt like this?

Gail you really must try harder...lol

The idea is if they know that you have a property then they are more likely to treat you as a local, their thinking is you will return again and maybe bring friend or when asked about a business will more likey send them to that particular business. Try it Gail, it does work a majority of the time. but you dont need to brag just drop it into the conversation, unlike so many i hear in the shops "we are not tourist we live here"!! I have to smile as this usually brings them nothing and whilst it makes me cringe it also gets the shop owner smirking

Lorraine I've heard it in the restaurants "We live here, we're not tourists" I also cringe, I suppose we have had things, we don't always pay the same price as the tourists for our beer in some places but I have never asked we have just been charged a bit cheaper discretely.

At the moment we live in the Middle East, and people here say just the same thing, does not get them anywhere at all, I have also heard the shopkeeper reply "so do I Madam, and I have a mother, father, wife and children to support back in India", which really made me giggle.

He has probably heard it all before Susan so it's just to him.
