Thumbs down Have Migros lost the plot?

One of the great things about living in Turkey for many of us is the freshness of fruit and vegetables which are available in abundance.

Went into Migros in Kusadasi yesterday....

At this branch, they have now stopped selling large bags of potatoes and have gone for the new approach of selling pre-packed packets. Yep!

Around 12/14 potatoes cling film wrapped on a white poly carton at a price of 1.20 lira.

Looking around the vegetable counter, it was more like visiting the Co-Op UK.

The vegetables on display were well past their "best by" - Migros have def lost the plot in my opinion.

Re: Have Migros lost the plot?

Merv, I am a great fan of Migros generally, but their Fruit and Veg is not anything for them to boast about. In a country with such great produce, the stuff they have on display is, at best, average.

Potatoes, as you mention them, are often poor quality. The local farmer's market in Fethiye has fantastic quality, cheaper. While I shop at Migros for most other things, I go elsewhere for fresh produce.

Gima, on the other hand, usually has very high quality Fruit and Veg.

It must be down to their buyers.

Re: Have Migros lost the plot?

Its not the first time that I have experienced this with Migros. Yesterday was Wednesday and the fresh market is on Friday so I only wanted enough to get by till then.

I didnt bother in the end and opted for a dial-a-kofte and salad

NOW talking of take-aways....

If we ever get this service in Kusadasi..... I shall surely live in Kusadasi forever

Re: Have Migros lost the plot?

The thing I most looked forward to about us hiring a car when we were in Calis was being able to go to Migros! I was so excited, had my friends loyalty card and was rearing to go, we wanted to stock up on things that we couldn't be bothered carrying but the fruit and veg was disgusting, we were picking things up and then noticing that they were all soft or had mold on them. We bought an onion and some oranges and that was it on the fruit and veg front. The cakes were nice though!

Although Migros is just round the corner from me, and I always used to shop there, I have now shifted my loyalty to the Kipa supermarket in Ortakent. Their prices are so much cheaper than Migros, and their quality, value and selection is far superior.
I only pop in Migros now if I'm desperate for something.
