retirement

Well I am now totally P***** O** We have been planning our retiremment the last couple of months and My wife gets a letter through the door that she will not get her old age pension til she is 65 instead of 60.(something we overlooked)What really annoys me with this is that the extra 5 years means we lose £21000 (and the goverment save £21000)that she would have been paid from 60 to 65.And all the pensions I have contributed to I may as well put in the bucket.
Now don`t get me started about what I think of this country.
I had to mouth off about this to make me feel better.

Oh Juco, I'm really sorry you've had that horrible news. [:0] They've got us mate. I hope you both manage to retire as soon as you want.

Thanks Gail, Its a question of when to throw in the towel and bail out. The retirement age won`t stop us it just infuriates me. I wonder how many others have been caught out with this?

I think I'm going to be in the same position and I AM LIVID!!!!!! I have worked for the NHS for 30 years and next year I reach my full service (40 yrs contributions as we double up for the last 10) I had hoped to stop paying contibutions at 48yao as I cant get owt more from the pension fund and move to Turkey or if push really came to shove move over at early retirement at 50 yoa. I have been planning this for 8 years! We have only just bought our home in Altinkum plus a little investment apartment we hope to rent in the future and all of a sudden I may not be able to take early retirement until I am 55! The other sting in the tail is that they may change the way they pay out and may pay on average earnings instead of final salary. I am absolutely gutted. I haven't been informed yet as to what the conditions are going to be or how it will affect existing long term members but I am getting a sinking feeling.....................

This news is bloody terrible, you think if you work hard throughout your life you will be ok, but...............
We are hoping to go over to Turkey to live before we are both 50 and I think we will hit these barriers before we go.......

Trevor, Don`t let them get you down. Just make sure you cover your back BEFORE you retire. On paper lose everything well in advance of retirement, if you don`t they will have it! I emailed you with some info but still can`t get through (they keep bouncing back)

Thanks Juco, I'm not sure what you mean by lose everything on paper before retirement, enlighten me please. I am really unsure as to why you can't e mail me and I think you have tried before both through this forum and personally, I am going to try and find out. This is my work e mail address, maybe it's our security systems. Saying that, a couple of e mails I have sent over xmas haven't been replied to, and I don't think it's my deodorant!

Have checked with IT and it is our security systems, something to do with attachments etc .and prevention of viruses. I haven't another e mail address until I get Tinternet (as Peter Kay calls it) in at home. Hopefully in the next week or so.
