Hello everyone

Used to look at this site prior to moving to Turkey and gained an awful lot of info.
Have joined again cos there is still so much out there to learn about living in Turkey.
Well have been here since April 2005 , got our dog with us ..so know all about that ..have a bank account ..so know something about that. have a tax card as well , still wondering about the heating issues...will tell you about that but can tell you all still not worried about moving here.

Re: Ginap

Well not as scary as it seems , although dog was a bit traumatised for a couple of weeks ...sorry can only tell it as it was . We did everything ourslves...didnt use a company ...here goes.

1 You need to phone D.E.F.R.A to get all necessary paperwork ...vets stuff an that. which has to be signred by you and sent back with date of travel so they can send it back to you for the vets approval.
2.If your vet does it ok but if not find a vet that deals with exporting dogs
3. Thomascook will fly you and your dog out together...if you dont fly with your dog you have to get an export licence..which is difficult. { they fly direct to dalaman}
4.Phone the cargo dept for Thomascook and make sure the flights you intend to take will acxomodate pet cargo ...door sizes of aircraft etc.
6. Get dog vaccinations ...not more than 6mths before flying.
7.Pet crate ..we got ours from vari kennel ...delivered within the week £95 quid ..labrador size..get it early as dog can get used to it ..you know put its
bed in it etc.
8 Vet exame no more than 96 hrs prior to departure
9. Visit British consulate at same time period to get all paperwork legalised ..open at 9am
!0. then go to Turkish consulate before 12 am as after that its shut ...panick as british consulate takes so much time ...run , killing yourself in the process...meet kind turk outide of building who ushers you inside past about 60 peple queing who look as though they could kill you to be told that legalisation is not necessarry
11. arrive 4 hrs before departure at said airport to find surley cargo men at 5am because you have to load dog 3hrs before departure then go check yourselves in for your flight
12. arrive at dalaman and expect someone to look at all youve been through and the threat that if its not before 5pm that you will have to leave your dog overnight cos the vet wont be able to check it through. To find dog up before your luggage , looking a triffle bemused as we take her off the carousell and leave the airport as though we had a bit of hand luggage.
NO VET < NO NOTHING not to say next time could be different

All for the price of about 1000gbp
travel about 670
vets fees 150
kennel 95

I don't know if it's the same for dogs as humans but my asthma just goes as soon as I go to Turkey and it doesn't matter how hot it is. I'm told it's the clean air and high oxygen levels. It's a lovely feeling. Maybe your dog will be the same!!
