Its that time of the year when Maliye are collecting their slice of profits from Turkish businesses and then..... its new tax time!
In around 4 weeks time we will see newspaper press releases of various increases.
Normally this starts with Tekel and Cigarettes.
So you dont drink or smoke..... Mmmm not as easy as that.
The man that sells yoghurt maybe does, therefore he puts his prices up a tad to cover the new increases.
The butcher likes a tipple of raki and loves his yoghurt so up goes the price of meat.
The greengrocer loves his meat and 2 veg, a few shots of raki and the odd packet of Samsun 216..... potatoes and greens.... up they go in price.
Where does this all end?
I suggest that at this time of year, you invest in a decent size chest freezer. Get to the food market at the end of day when they are selling everything off cheap anf fill your boots with vegetables that can be sliced, diced and frozen.
Find a butcher off the main trail, pick a village butcher, and do a deal for 50 odd kilo of mixed cuts.
It will save you stacks of Lira.
Merv!
