Moving to Kusadasi
I know this subject has appeared on the forum many times, in varying degrees of information required and given. However, we hope to move over before Christmas and have had a number of quotes from local shipping agents who will provide a "door to door" service. Although convenient, I find the cost to be quite excessive (average quote £3,300),for a relatively small container. The only real alternative is to "do-it-yourself". It's not just the physical aspect of getting everything over there, but what to expect at customs.(Electrical goods, ie, T.V's, Computer systems, musical equipment, etc, etc) If anybody has recently made the move, either shipping or driving, any information would be appreciated. If driving, are we likely to encounter any severe weather conditions at this time of year.

Re: Moving to Kusadasi
Well, I just talked to a friend tha brought her stuff over, and they paid 4000 pounds, plus 1500 EUROS in fees and tax at customs. They had the door to door service, people came and packed it all, and when they delivered it, they unpacked it all. they even clear it from customs for them. be sure you have a good detailed packing list, and on the value, put garage sale values on it, that is where they asses the import duty on
(gee didnt realise what a bargain I got for shipping my stuff all the way over from the west coast of the US - about 3,000 dollars......for a 20' cntr)
We went to Izmir ourselves to clear it from customs, and it was a spot check on the boxes, luckily they didnt touch too many of the boxes with computers./electricals in it. but we still ended up paying through the nose, however, we had a car too.....
I would ship it here, rather than drive it here. Ony cause all i can think of is the hassle it would be......and yeah, if you are planning to come before Christmas, well seems like the weather is going to be iffy.
good luck to you

Re: Moving to Kusadasi
Hi Lynn, thanks for your support. Despite the cost of shipping, there will be loads of space in the container, so if you fancy rolling about on the high seas for a few weeks, be my guest. If you know the road out of Kusadasi going towards Davutlar & National Park, there is a huge White building on the right hand side, which is I believe, a Leather furniture shop. We are basically behind there. Not on a complex, but amongst the local people. Nice area and 5 min walk to the beach.

Re: Moving to Kusadasi
Adrian, theres also a removal firm in Kusadasi. They may be of use to you if you decide to use a connecting service from Izmir. May work out cheaper.
If you want their details drop me a PM.
Merv!

Re: Moving to Kusadasi
I know when we were looking to furnish our villa 3 years ago, we had the thought of purchasing in britain and shipping the entire contents to kusadasi but we were quoted £2100 for the smallest container and as mentioned earlier the taxes your then liable to pay with respect of the electrical items, we eventually decided to purchase our contents locally in kus and its worked out significantly cheaper, of course this will not help if you have large personal items which you need to take with you, but good luck in what ever you do

Many thanks gary & tracy. We are still getting quotes but I fear they will all be roughly the same. We bought some very nice furniture items about a year ago and very reluctant to dispose of it. I know we all have to weigh up the cost of shipping against the cost of replacing, but there are some things that just cannot be replaced. I'm sure you know what I mean. What we are hoping to bring over is quite minimal really but the price of shipping doesn't reflect. Many thanks for your comments. Adrian
