Re: Rental Legalaties in Turkey

'Scuse me for butting in here, but is there really a rule forbidding the use of toilet paper? Hope that doesn't apply on all sites cos if it does then we're banjaxed.

Hi Guz1,

You should not be putting paper down the toilets in Turkey, this is because the plumbing system in of a narrower pipe work. So the putting of paper down the toilets causes the sewarage pipes to block. Very messy and very costly to fix!

Thats why you will always see a little bin, in every toilet/bathroom to dispose of your paper.

You will also notice, that on many of the toilets in Turkey, there is a little pipe at the back of the toilet, and a stop cock, type thing on the wall, to turn this water pipe on and off. This is because many Turks will "wash" after using the toilet. If you get what I mean.

Re: Rental Legalaties in Turkey

Gosh, jo2beans, I thought that only applied to the traditional Turkish toilets. Yes, we do have what my nephews so delicately refer to as the "bum washer" on the toilet. There will be uproar in our family when I tell them they can't flush the loo paper any more, but better that than being run out of town by the neighbours if we bung up the sewerage system. Oh the joys of owning a place in the sun!

Oh you do get used to it in time-trouble is, when you come back to the UK you automatically want to throw it on the floor where the bin should be!

Re: Toilet paper

i have always flushed the paper down the loo...even when down in 'old Antakya'....
ive never ever seen a bin for loo paper in a turkish home and i go to lots. yes turks use the hose to clean and then toilet paper to dry off..which is then flushed away.

Re: Toilet paper

Take it from me...NEVER flush paper. We had to call out the council to power jet our drains, which I might add didn't work. We were wading in sewage which came up the shower and toilet. It was eventually cleared by a stranger with six wire coathangers fixed together and put down the drains. It took about six hours and much cursing. Can laugh about it now, but at the time we were told they would have to dig out the pipes to remedy the situation. So take heed from our experience!!

I was really hoping you would come along and clear this up Jac.

Jackie and Lynn were wading in s*** for the whole 6 hours so I guess it's up to everyone out there to either take their advice or wade in s***. It ruined their holiday, nobody would go near them, I spoke with them on the phone from Bodrum and I could smell it Their favourite restaurant put chairs and a table down by the harbour for them so at least it was only the fish they were annoying

Poor Jackie and Lynn
