we bought our motorhome on Ebay bit sceptical at first as it was a lot of money to pay. we were interested in another one so we went to see it but as my partner said he wanted to go home and think about it, by the time he had decided somebody else had payed the reserve price.
so when we saw this one online for 10 days or pay the reserve price and the reason it was for sale was the owner had bought it with a view to retiring the next year but then he had a stroke. as soon as we saw this one my partner and i went decided straight away to pay the reserve.
felt awful as the man was sitting in a wheelchair and started crying as we drove it away. his plan was to travel everywhere i suppose he never got to do his dream but the motorhome has certainly travelled. best thing we ever bought Pat

We had a similar heart-wrenching experience when we once bought a beautiful custom built Harley (Arlenes front end for those in the know) which had been built for a young man who obviously had mobility problems. His mother actually showed us the bike in the garage (which we bought - for me!) and she explained that he always believed he would one day be fit enough to ride, which had obviously never happened and wasn't going to. It was truly heatbreaking because when you start up a 1340 Harley the ground shakes, you can't do it quietly so there was no way we could hide the fact that we were riding away his dream. Oh god, I'm nearly in tears now, need a fag and a coffee...
For good info on Motorhomes get MMM magazine (Motorhome monthly magazine) and join one of the Motorhome forums - its an endless subject.

Those in the know, know them/him as Arlen Ness.

On the Motorhome front, it's just a case of how much do you want to pay? We had an old VW combi that did us fine [when young and fit] but nowadays nothing short of a full spec Winnibago would do for anything more than a few weeks trip.

You're so right, many apologies to Arlen Ness, it was obviously a bit early in the morning for me to have my head on straight.
We've been studying the motorhome idea for a couple of months now and reckon we need to spend about 25-30k to get something a couple of years old which (hopefully) will be more ecomic on fuel and have a good layout. We love a make called 'Ace' but can't remember what chasis they're on. We have also been put off having the sleeping bit over the cab unless its essential since apparently this gives less miles to the gallon.
