Gas Supply Deposit
We have just been asked to pay a 500ytl deposit for the gas to our apartment by the caretaker. As far as I am aware the gas tank that supplies the block has been filled by one of the permanent residents. As each apartment has it's own meter I assumed that we would only pay for what we would use, which in our case would be very little this year, as it will only be occupied for a maximum of 8 weeks. We have friends currently staying there for a week and they were given this bill to pass onto us.
Has anyone come across this before, and what way does it work?
Advice much appreciated.

Re: Gas Supply Deposit
Mag, have you tried asking any of the other residents about this. If there are six people in your block that each have to pay 500ytl thats 3 milyar.....agree....sounds like rip off.
You know the old saying....if in doubt....check it out.

Re: Gas Supply Deposit
Thanks Pebble and Parrot I will definitely check it out. Last year one of the other owners filled the tank and the builder emailed us to say we owed about 60 Euros, which to date we have'nt paid because we have been unable to find out who we owe it to! Needless to say we were surprised to receive such a high bill for a deposit. I will have to investigate it further when our friends return home. I would'nt mind paying it up front if our gas usage over the next few seasons was offset against it.
Thanks again
Mag
As a matter of interest is the cost of gas cheap or expensive in Turkey?

Re: Gas Supply Deposit
Hi Pennie,
I am trying to get in touch with an Irish neighbour who has a villa on the complex to see what they know. Unfortunately we don't know many of our other neighbours yet, only a very nice Turkish family below us who have no English.
Thanks for your replies. I will let you know how I get on.

Re: Gas Supply Deposit
hi,
i am an attorney at law. so i think i can give you a little advice. it is your obligation to pay for what you use. you are right at this point. According to turkish law about managing complex real estates every real estate owner must pay an amount of money to the director of the complex every month. the amount is designated each year at owners meeting. in the meeting a projection about the assumed costs for the next year is made and a budget is formed. according to this budget every owner is obliged to make monthly payments. at the end of the year when you calculate how much gas you used and the price. then you can see the balance. if you have given more money than the price of which you consumed the remainder must be paid back to you or transferred to next year's budget on behalf of you.
this is the general practice. if you have other questions feel free to contact me. selcukargun@hotmail.com
