What's in a name?
We have a new house in Dalaman, we have a road name but no house number-nor are we likely to ever get one. In order to direct deliveries or taxi's to our house we've got to give it a name. So far we've been calling it 'yabanci ev' as we're the only foreigners in the road but it doesn't have much of a ring to it, does it?
We would like to give it a nice name that's easy to say in both English and Turkish, Villa ?????
Any suggestions anyone?

Re: What's in a name?
Well don't call it peach tree villa. I believe that's a bit rude in Turkish!!! We had a bit of a job choosing ours and someone on here once said to call it the first thing you see when you move in. Any way we saw it and bought during a full moon and hence Villa Dolunay (full moon) we have 2 owls living on our roof so wish now it was Villa Baykus. What I really wanted was Deli Evi (crazy house) but the other half didn't like it! Don't know why I bothered though as every Turk around such as taxi drivers, water delivery men etc call it Janes house.

Re: What's in a name?
What about a favorite tree or flower that you like or a memorable place? Just a suggestion as we named ours because it was the place we got married.

Re: What's in a name?
Thanks Folks,
I did think of one but I need to know if it makes sense. We lived in a place called 'Rosehill' and we were very happy there-hence the 'nom de plume' I have.
This, I think, translates into 'Gultepe' in Turkish-have I got this right and does it make sense, sometimes things don't say what you think they do?
Cheers

Re: What's in a name?
Gultepe is fine Ann (strictly speaking Gültepe) - there's a district in Istanbul called that.
My wife's decided our place should be called "Kartaltepe" (eagle hill), because most days we get a few eagles soaring around us.

Re: What's in a name?
Think Gulen has something to do with rose as well. If you just call it Rosehill the locals might not be able to pronounce it but they'll know it's your house.
