Yes Datca

I am lucky to have travelled the coast on a very wide scale on contracts and have had the pleasure of working in most main stream coastal towns. However last night we got back from a place which to be honest, if I had the choice to move to and live, it would be Datca. It is what I consider a pretty and cosy town, with none of the Brit influence(although there are plenty there) as they are well outnumbered by Turks and Turkish tourists (possibly because it's long and winding road from Marmaris).
The night sees the beach as resturants with tables at the waters edge, all nicely lit by candles, and a complete cosiness about the general ambience.(by morning, all has changed and the sun beds are back as if nothing has happened)
Not just that but the beach is more 'gardenlike' with plants growing, and nothing is trimmed and pruned to make it look too regimental. There is an air of freedom about it and the way it is presented. In just 2 days in this town, I thought, that maybe, just maybe one day we may have a look for a retirement pigeon hole there, but if not, certainly our escape town for weekends etc. I just hope and pray the foreigners don't ruin it.

Sparrow...there were 4 of us in a loaded up crew cab truck, so progress is not as fast as a car, including a cay stop 3.5 hours. less by car.

Thought you'd love it no nem. I was captivated on my first visit and just have to keep going back. I think it's the loveliest place I have visited in Turkey. It's not for everyone though, I have heard some say it's too far from anywhere. I'm so excited as I'll be there on Tuesday for a month.

That is why a lot of N.Ireland folk like ourselves have bought holiday homes in Datca. We are guilty of having told a few others about it and these same people have now become holiday home owners too. None of us want it to become too touristy but it is difficult to keep a good thing quiet for long, word soon gets out.

So it's your fault then Doreen! I must admit I've done the same so perhaps we should keep quiet now.

I love Datca as well. It is one of my favourite places, and the drive there is spectacular. Its got so much charm - did you go to Eski Dataa as it is really lovely? Its only a short ferry ride from Bodrum too. The fact that the journey takes about 2.5 hours drive from Dalaman puts many people off but that keeps the place more special.

Re: Yes Datca

Could not agree more Datca is lovely and all the more so because it is still very Turkish. We are very fortunate to have a holiday home in Datca and our main home in Mid Wales which has the most stunning coutryside in the UK (in my opinion anyway).

My only real problem is that I am too young to retire so work keeps getting in the way of my enjoyment of both areas.
