How do you read your meters???

Hi,

I have a long term let, but myself and my DIL are unable to read the electric meter, as the numbers are tumbling all the time, as for the water meter.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received, I am in Turkey 4th Oct 07

Joan

How much electricity is being used if the numbers are tumbling all the time?
We have one of those meters and agree the last digit moves quite quickly but if all spinning round isnt that strange unless there is a huge drain on the supply somewhere.

We only have a fridge and washing machine, plus tv and lights, but my DIL was unable to read it this Aug. Will have a go myself next week, there are 4 apts and four meters, only use apt for 12 weeks up to now, and for my five weeks, certainly didnt use much elec. no need to.

Something sounds wierd to me and needs urgent investigation with your DIL asap.
Neither of our meters do that in the UK or Turkey and it shouldnt be doing that.
The reading should be set there in front of you with perhaps small movement from the last digit in the number on the right.
Could yours be linked to another source in error and surely it stops if nothing is on at all. It sounds as if you are supplying the whole area and totally baffling.
Our water meter flips over slowly on the last digit and we would have to be supplying the Victoria Falls for it to tumble over like that

Dont know Landlord not asked for the money yet, that is why I was trying to read the meter, so that I had a good idea of the cost.

Re: How do you read your meters???

Hi I have just returned from my apartment and looked at the meter, it does keep turning, fairly quickly but it show the date/ then the time /then last reading/then present reading but they revolve too quick for me to read, I did ask and told that the meter reading man, uses a digital /electronic card to read the meter.

Yes I think my landlord is honest, but would have liked to know for myself but it appears it isnt possible.

I cannot understand how it belts around like that as we can read our digital gas meter and water meter fine.
Perhaps see what Gail etc think via a PM as they live there all year with those kind of meters.
