3 month Turkey Ban
One of my friends flew to the UK on Monday, she was sitting next to a woman who cried for most of the 4 hour flight!
It seemed that the English woman had overstayed her residency permit by less than 1 week. On trying to exit Turkey she was questioned by Passport Police at Dalaman, fined 144 pounds and told she will be refused entry to Turkey for 3 months (even though her house is here). On top of this when she does return to Turkey she will have to first obtain an entry visa from The Turkish Embassy in London.
I remember reading a poster at Marmaris port about this, but know many people who have overstayed by a few days with no major problems.
Just thought i would make forum members aware that this can happen!

That does seem harsh. They usually give a leeway of 15 days to renew a residency. İ wonder if this is a new ruling.

Re: 3 month Turkey Ban
In fairness if she has an house here and lives here then she should have a residency permit. Oh it does say residence permit, I need new glasses. LOL.
I have a sneaky suspicion it is a visa

Surely they would have advertised this well in advance just to let people know about it - like the way they do with everything else

Unfortunately, ignorance is no defence, even in Turkish Law.

Re: 3 month Turkey Ban
I must have been lucky then as I renewed my Residence Permit 3 weeks ago. I was 14 days over which was within the 15 days after expiry date and had no problem, so it must be a new thing unless it was because she was leaving Turkey even though it was just for for a holiday, I myself have never left Turkey unless my Residents Permit was up to date as I have often wondered if this would have happened to me.

Re: 3 month Turkey Ban
There's still confusion being caused by people talking about Residency Visas, Residency Permits, Tourist Visas, Entry Visas etc.
Millilove76's post refers to a Residency Permit.
The article on the Fethiye Bay website is about Tourist Visas and was published on 4th April 2008.

"Unfortunately, ignorance is no defence, even in Turkish Law."
That argument only has credence when people are told about the introduction of new or changes to existing law through newspapers, tv, other media etc, and then turn round and try to say they didn't know after they've been caught out.
That is why there is so much confusion around what is and what isn't fact regarding Turkish laws and procedure.
It's a disaster, obviously even for the Turkish citizenry.
And please don't say 'Aah but that's just Turkey' because that increasingly sounds like an excuse for 'who really gives a s**t'......
