Although, there is no such thing as a 12 month Visa but you can apply for either a 12 month or 24 month RP (Residency Permit)
Also the 120 day restrictions on leaving the country has now also been removed for RP holders.
Once you enter on a normal visa you can stay in Turkey for as long as it takes for the RP to come through 'so no worries on the 90 day limit'
Read the question again Old Fogy, or put your glasses on..

The longer answer is "You can not get a long term visa for for 12 or 24 months you have to apply for a residence permit".

Which is what I said, and did not give just a one word reply that actually means nothing on it's own, so maybe you are the one that needs to put their specs on or may give just them a clean so you can see what you initially wrote.

The short answer to Gary's question was 'No'

Fair enough but it's not really the only answer because by telling him about the 1 year or 2 year RP would have by far been a much better reply instead of just ''NO''

Re: Moving to Marmaris

My apologies for the delay in replying, work tends to get in the way of the important stuff. We have decided that we are going to definitely buy instead of renting, it just feels like the right thing to do. To start off we want to get a fairly cheap apartment (about 50k) then after a year or so sell our house in the UK and buy something a little bigger, and then let the first apartment out. Many thanks for all your replies.

Yes, Rent First. Book an off-season junket for a week or two. While there find a local to help you search for a rental from the local market (not from the market servicing foreigners, and not in English, and usually for a one year contract). Renting on a one year term contract from the local non-foreigners non-English speaking market is far cheaper and far more choice. Use a tourist visa for the first six months. During that time you will have a number of priorities for your ongoing research- one being to sort out a longer term visa / permit solution. PM me for more help.

Re: Moving to Marmaris

OK if you are buying, the priorities on your 'to do' list are a bit lengthy, so still you will need to do your research FIRST- or otherwise risk becoming a victim- which generally happens most of the time.

And priorities doesnt mean window shopping pretty pictures with estate agents- instead it's the tiresome details related to property legalities, regulations etc- but that's ok- it's normal no matter where you go in the world- but be forewarned that property matters in Turkey are NOT like in the UK despite what you may be told...

With the new regulations concerning renting out , you would be better selling the apartment and banking the money , that would generate @ £500 a month tax paid and no hassle

You are misinformed McB and need to get your facts right before advising others. A TOURIST visa lasts 90 days, after which you have to leave Turkey for 90 days before returning. You cannot "use a tourist visa for 6 months" as you suggest. Applying for a Residence Permit is done online, is straight forward and most people do NOT need assistance.

Touting for business? I thought that was not allowed Admins?

Is mcb touting , I hope not , he has dragged up posts from long past in order to gain a presence .
