selling property in Turkey

Hi Can anybody advise of the process. I've agreed to sell my property in Turkey. I've received a Contract from Estate Agent in Turkey and it is in english and the buyer's european language. Have to have some things amended as the translation is not the same as the english terms. When has this to be signed as I live in Uk and the buyer in Sweden. What happens when I arrive in Turkey How do I get up to date bills for electricy and water. I am wary of transferring the TAPU as Ive been told the money will be deposited in my bank. How do I know this. The buyer is using a Power of Attorney. Anyone out there can give me a detailed step by step process and is it hard to have monies transferred from your turkish bank to a UK one and long does it take. Many thanks

Re: selling property in Turkey

The contract is not legal unless notarised, it won't be from what you are saying, to me it sounds like a sales agreement.

I think the process would be that you go to the Tapu office and start the process in the morning, once they are ready for you to sign you check you bank account to make sure the money is safe in your account, I think the agent would probably have the POA from the buyer and would be able to conclude the signing over the tapu.

The bills and taxes should be sorted out the day before, the TAPU office is usually hectic and not a lot of time to run back and forth on the same day, the agent would normally have prepared most of the paperwork so the deal can be concluded on the day you are there.

You just need to make sure that you have the money in your account before signing over the TAPU.

If you have a Turkish bank account you can transfer the money quickly within a day, otherwise you can open an account and transfer when you want, make sure you open a sterling account and only accept sterling price, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Re: selling property in Turkey

If you don't already have it, it may be worth setting up (and learning how to use) internet banking on your mobile. We recently helped a friend sell her car, and we sat in the noter's until she could see that the money was in, and correct. then she signed it over. it should be the same with a house, and no cash to carry around. Good luck.
