schools or private tutors ?????
Hi all new to this forum lark but after reading a lot of postings on this and other sites I was hoping that someone out there might be able to help we are moving to Turunc after christmas this year and have a 14 year old daughter we were looking at the International colleage in Marmaris but have been put off this by some of the postings so we were looking at other options does anyone out there know of any private tutors and how much it would cost ?
Also before anyone shouts at me for moving her at this age let me add that no disrespect to her but she is not academic but very practical and has lots of other great qualities .

Re: schools or private tutors ?????
I moved here when my daughter was 14 too, she starts school in a couple of weeks here. I moved now, if I left it any longer she would not want to come. I have chosen the local school rather than the private one. She seems ok about it, I will letyou know how it goes.

Re: schools or private tutors ?????
Hi. We moved out to Koycegiz 2 years ago with our then 6yr old son. Before we moved we enquired about the local and private schools. They both had their pro's and con's. We choose the option of a private school as his class size was only 8 children. Our son was the only English child at this school, so he had to learn Turkish. It took him about 1 month to settle in but after that he was fine. After he had learnt Turkish we choose to put him into the local school 10 mins away. We now know that both have their advantages and disadvantages. Private schools you have to pay for although they are very cheap and state schools are free. All i can say is children are fantastic at adapting to their surroundings. We now have an 8yr old son who can understand, speak, and read and write Turkish.
Hope this helps in some way, and i wish you a safe move to a beautiful country.
Lale

firstly i dont think anyone at all has the right to comment or 'shout' at you with regards to your daughter or anything else. its entirely your decision.
i cant give u costings towards tutors, and i guess they will vary from place to place and person to person, though maybe someone who has a tutor could give u an idea..
there are lots to consider regarding education, an option that I will use for my 13 year old is to have a privat tutor for 6 months and then decide on private or state school after he has grasped the basics of the language, that will give me some time to assess the schools in question.
hth....

Re: schools or private tutors ?????
Great advice from you both it has been a hard enough decision to make but we feel that it will enrich all our lives for the better and feel that we have found our home in Turunc from the first moment we arrived there 3 years ago our daughter feel the same and cant wait to get on the plane even though we all know that there is a lot of hard work ahead of us .The only downside to all this is our 16yr old son is not coming with us but staying with my mum to do his A leveals and then university to train to become a barrister but his dreams are of upmost importance to us so this is why he is staying but going to invest in 2 good web cams and laptops first on list .manythanks for the feed back it has helped

Re: schools or private tutors ?????
Mavi I think Goldmattymiss means she was put off the school by some postings about the school, I dont think she was saying anyone was making comments about her daughters education.

Re: schools or private tutors ?????
My Niece moved to Turkey when she was 7 and went to a private
school for the first year, She was fluent speaking reading and writing
in 3 months, I dont think it was anything to do with the school being
private, just nececity, the teacher did'nt speak English, supposedly,
clever teacher,
I cant help think that it may be easier for your daughter to make
friends and pick up the language quicker in a school environment rather
than in isolation with a tutor, Turkish children like their parents are
so friendly and helpful
just a thought!
