Re: Bahrain Grand Prix -2012 (20-22 April)

Yes so many things not right about the Bahrain Grand prix, last year it was cancelled and I thought it was the right decision.

I have mixed emotions, now, that the teams are there I'm just following the racing...it's not right when so many people are suffering in Bahrain. Incidentally all journalists were refused visas for Bahrain incase they cover the intense situation there. Only those with SkySport were in.

Just watched SENNA The Movie..very sad to see him so stressed, anxious in his last years and such an early end to his life...just 34.

Back to racing that occurred today; Rosberg was faster by almost half a second, amazing!

Practice 2

1 8 Nico Rosberg Mercedes 1:32.816 35
2 2 Mark Webber Red Bull Racing-Renault 1:33.262 0.446 26
3 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing-Renault 1:33.525 0.709 28
4 4 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:33.747 0.931 26
5 7 Michael Schumacher Mercedes 1:33.862 1.046 32
6 3 Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes 1:34.246 1.430 28
7 14 Kamui Kobayashi Sauber-Ferrari 1:34.411 1.595 34
8 5 Fernando Alonso Ferrari 1:34.449 1.633 31
9 10 Romain Grosjean Lotus-Renault 1:34.615 1.799 32

Grosjean once again had a strong Practice time beating his team mate Rakkinonen (14th)..I'm getting to like Grosjean...think Lotus are coming up strong this year after Mclaren, Mercededes, Red Bull as Ferrari seem lacking in pace but thanks to Alonso still stay within top 10.

See what happens tomorrow in Qualifying...and if the race goes ahead quietly....

Re: Bahrain Grand Prix -2012 (20-22 April)

Although I'm looking forward very much to the race tomorrow, I too have a feeling that something dreadful is about to happen.

Last year when the race was cancelled, I thought they were wrong to do that as Formula One is staged in other countries, China, to name just one, that also have abysmal 'Human Rights' problems. If the 'Human Rights' issue becomes a standard for choosing sporting venues, not only Formula One, but also Rugby, Football, Snooker, and most certainly Cricket venues would seriously have to be rethought.

When can we start to separate sport from politics?
When will we accept that this Bahrain fiasco has nothing to do with Human Rights but everything to do with money?

If the race is cancelled at this late time, it's not going to remove the teams from the problems and demonstrations now growing around them.
If it goes ahead, all hell could be let loose at any time.

So, what's the solution?

Re: Bahrain Grand Prix -2012 (20-22 April)

F1 apologists for Bernie Eclestone keep appearing on TV and radio telling me that sport and politics should be kept separate. Really? So what about Bahrain spending millions on building a racetrack and also several millions evey year for the right to stage a GP. Is this because the royal family is a bunch of petrol heads? Or might it be the political kudos of being accepted into the "F1 Family" and portrayed as a modern, repected country? KEEP POLITICS OUT OF SPORT? Pull the other one matey.

17 18 Pastor Maldonado Williams-Renault 1:34.639 No time 8
18 7 Michael Schumacher Mercedes 1:34.865 5

Disappointing for Schumacher again in Q1 with rear wing probs/drs.. and just being knocked out to go for Q2.

Force India have been penalized for missing 2nd Practice due to the scare their car had with protesters on the way back to their hotel being further out than some other teams. As a result Force India's qualifying seems deliberately not screened for broadcast by Bernie Ecclestone.

The saddest news of all is the news of one protestor being shot 'Salah Abbas Habib Musa', a father of five, was found on a rooftop in the Shia village of Shakhoura the day before the race.
