Canadian Grand Prix 2012 - Montreal

7th Race of the Season this Weekend.

So far 6 races, and 6 different winning drivers...will Race 7 see a new driver win or will we see some sort of pattern emerging from the initial set of winners?

From Practice 2 yesterday Hamilton was fastest, only the Ferrari's of Alonso and Massa came anywhere near, Vettel was 4th.

Today, however in Qualifying could be another set up, however, Hamilton is looking strong...in comparision his team mate Button had poor Practice 2 in comparison. Button's car was in pits most of the time for a gearbox change, when he finally got a lap out it was not quite on the pace.

Practice 2 results (from Friday 8 June)

1 4 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:15.259 43
2 5 Fernando Alonso Ferrari 1:15.313 0.054 36
3 6 Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:15.410 0.151 39
4 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing-Renault 1:15.531 0.272 44
5 11 Paul di Resta Force India-Mercedes 1:15.544 0.285 32
6 14 Kamui Kobayashi Sauber-Ferrari 1:15.651 0.392 37
7 7 Michael Schumacher Mercedes 1:15.697 0.438 32
8 12 Nico Hulkenberg Force India-Mercedes 1:15.799 0.540 39
9 3 Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes 1:15.812 0.553 14
10 8 Nico Rosberg Mercedes 1:15.878 0.619

BTW, Lotus were pretty poor in yesterday's Practice Grosjean and Räikkönen's times were in the 1:16's pushing them down around 14th and 15th.

Practice 3 and Qualifying later today.

Who will be on Pole? Hamilton atm looks pretty strong!

Re: Canadian Grand Prix 2012 - Montreal

Vettel on Pole for today's race!!!

We have 3 world champions in top 3, with Hamilton and Vettel on front row!
...but who do you think will win?

1 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing-Renault 1:14.661 1:14.187 1:13.784 16
2 4 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:14.891 1:14.371 1:14.087 22
3 5 Fernando Alonso Ferrari 1:14.916 1:14.314 1:14.151 2

What a Pole time, in the 1:13's hole or no hole..on whole he did a good job

Unhappy Re: Canadian Grand Prix 2012 - Montreal

Newhorizon, ive been a fan for over 30 years and was hooked since the James Hunt era and when i visited a small outfit in Bolton called Chevron Racing as a young engineer. However i cannot share your enthusiasm as this season has been the most boring since i have been watching. I want to see the fastest drivers in the most technologically advanced fastest cars going flat out from start to finish and not cars and drivers nursing their tyres! since the first 2 races i have not even bothered watching since as in a word it is BORING!!!

cuppy, sadly I have to agree with all you say, even more sad though it seems that after such great promise Jenson Button seems to be slipping into the Nigel Mansell mould.

Re: Canadian Grand Prix 2012 - Montreal

Me too I am not enjoying the season as much as I normally do.

I'd like to see Hamilton win todays' race though.

Re: Canadian Grand Prix 2012 - Montreal

Im afraid that the powers that be who are trying to make the sport more attractive are actually doing the opposite for me. I love all forms of motorsport but it is becoming so artificial i cannot bring myself to watch it! I really hope that the designers and drivers get more of a free reign or i think it is the beginning of the end for F1.

Thanks cuppy. Yes, unfortunately F1 today has changed and pure racing drivers just cannot or do not push to the limit...like they used to back in the day.
I've only been following F1 since the the mid 90's around 1994/95 (gosh didn't realise that's almost 20 years?!! ok 18 years) since the Schumacher domination, after Mansell's time. I saw a program on Senna recently and was saddened to see his frustration in later years with racing.
Now, my dad will tell me about great racing drivers like Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham etc all before my time.

Back to the current, when teams dominated a season it got boring for the viewers, so along come Pirelli and design a tyre that seems to fall off at 'a point' with massive tyre degradation that can see a driver who was almost leading a race (see Rakkkinon this year fell from 2nd to around 15th in minutes..all due to his tyres! which spoilt the fun.)

Schumacher as well as many top drivers have spoken out at their disappointment with tyres and using the softly, softly approach.

Cheers Cuppy, your comment has stimulated some discussion.

Well Race starts in around 40 minutes time...see what happens
