Turkey scores highest for tummy bugs abroad

I've never had an upset stomach from eating anything in Turkey yet....

'ONE Group, the UKs leading independent travel claims and assistance provider, has revealed that Turkey had the highest prevalence of gastroenteritis claims last year. This was followed by Egypt, the Dominican Republic and Spain. Perhaps, surprisingly, the USA came fifth in the league table.'

Re: Turkey scores highest for tummy bugs abroad

I'm another who has never had Turkish tummy. Some of the family were sick last year and put it down to a visit to a waterpark. The only one to escape the bug was the one who didn't go in the swimming pool.

No, me neither. I also escaped in Egypt but did suffer from Montezuma's Revenge when I was travelling round Mexico - the result of not eating what the locals ate!

Re: Turkey scores highest for tummy bugs abroad

Surprised me too. I did have a nasty bug just once around 4 years ago but apart from that one incident,no problems in over 10 years.

My family seem to get more tummy bugs in the UK than I have ever heard of here.

Re: Turkey scores highest for tummy bugs abroad

from about 1993 to probably 2000 I always had Turkey tummy at least once during our holidays and I am a veggie so don't usually suffer with that sort of thing

The UK has a huge problem with Norovirus (Gastroenteritis). Every year hospitals, schools, hotels and cruise ships have serious outbreaks. This is an airborne virus and not necersarily transferred through food, more often than not it is transferred through an individuals poor personal hygeine.
I do believe we have destroyed much of our immune system with anti-biotics

Re: Turkey scores highest for tummy bugs abroad

i've eaten street food in urfa, kigali, karachi and kathmandu ... the only place i ever got sick was at a restaurant buffet. says less about turkey than it does about people going full-board and penny pinching by eating yesterday's egg salad so they can get wasted on efes later on. (and maybe if you stick an eggsalad down your trousers and smuggle it back to your room for a midnight snack, you're gonna deserve what you get.)
