very true and very dreadful..and i have always spoken out about the invasions
but the UK and US arent in Syria..and two wrongs dont make a right...and the thread is about the atrocities now taking place in Syria..at the moment the demos have been mostly in the south but they are gradually creeping into every part of the country.

İt speaks for itself that the Asad family have had a tight grip on Syria for decades...nobody can be that popular.

Re: Syria's crackdown

i think you have me wrongly pigeon-holed Phillip..i dont know any white knights
Phillip we are discussing syria and the uprising...im sure you are all for people to throw off their chains and be liberated?
the Syrians want a different style...the problems in Syria are worsening as fundamentalism is increasing...the Syrians are blaming the Lebanese for their problems..not the US

Re: Syria's crackdown

as I have said I support the Syrian people in whatever they chose

What I dont agree with is uncle Sam getting in there exploiting the situ solely for their own ends like they have done for decades in many many countries

Re: Syria's crackdown

Unfortunately uprisings don't always lead to democracy though:

The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 failed to stimulate major political changes in China.

In Belarus, former Communist leader Alexander Lukashenko has retained power and has been criticized for repressing political opposition ever since.

In Kazakhstan, independence struggle began with the Jeltoqsan uprising in 1986. Former Communist leader Nursultan Nazarbayev has been in power since 1991.

Obviously we hope things turn out differently for the citizens involved in the Arab Spring, but despots don't give up easily.
