Assange appeal lost today

BBC News - Wikileaks' Julian Assange loses extradition appeal

Could he be going home and possibly to jail?

Or is this revenge for all the documents leaked?

What do you think?

Re: Assange appeal lost today

Probably Ted,
He has played a dangerous game for a long time and made lots of enemies.
Still a final appeal in the UK, lets see how that plays out

regards

Is the idea not that he is sent to Sweden then to America?

Re: Assange appeal lost today

he has now been granted asylum by Ecuador but the British will not let him leave the country.

I think the lesson to be learned is, if you have upset the USA, stay away from the UK. (and it looks like Sweden also)

Why was he in the UK anyway?

As I've understood it (cant find much actual info on google search) - he is not actually accused of a crime in Sweden ... just wanted for questioning in connexion with some vague alleged crime involving a woman with whom he was in a relationship of several months duration. But the Swedish police refuse to question him in the Equador embassy.

Re: Assange appeal lost today

Hi is not wanted for questioning for some vague crime involving a woman as you put it.
He is wanted for questioning over allegations that he sexually assaulted two female ex-Wikileaks volunteers while he was in Stockholm to give a lecture in 2010.
if he has done no wrong he should go back to sweden to clear his name.

Re: Assange appeal lost today

On 20 August 2010, Swedish police began an investigation into allegations concerning Assange's behaviour in separate sexual encounters involving two different women. The arrest warrant was canceled on 21 August 2010 by one of Stockholm's chief prosecutors.
Then in December 2010, Assange, whilst in Britain, learned that the Swedish authorities had issued a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) to extradite him to Sweden for questioning as the case had been reopened.

On 6 December 2010, during a segment of the Fox Business show "Follow The Money" on US TV, Fox News political commentator and analyst Bob Beckel stated, "A dead man can't leak stuff. This guy's a traitor, he's treasonous, and he has broken every law of the United States. And I'm not for the death penalty, so there's only one way to do it: illegally shoot the son of a bitch." Other guests on the program agreed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI0N_L0llo8
Assange's lawyer in Britain, Mark Stephens claimed the charges in Sweden are just a 'holding case' while the US prepares its prosecution over Wikileak's activities. He said Assange could face extradition or illegal rendition to the US from Sweden where he could be detained in a high-security prison and face the death penalty. Stephens said he believed Swedish officials were cooperating with US authorities.

I am not into conspiracy theories but I sure that the Americans are behind this and Assanges British solicitor is right.
