Turkish nationals visa-free travel to closest greek Islands

m.milliyet.com.tr

Well, not entirely visa-free, but a similar process to the one we encounter. According to the article Turks will soon be able to travel to the closest Greek Islands without needing to apply for a visa - rather they will be granted a 2 week stay tourist visa on entering the country.
This new policy is currently being drawn up.
Great news for those of us with Turkish spouses

Re: Turkish nationals visa-free travel to closest greek Islands

Unfortunately it doesn't state a date in the report Beyazbayan.

I'm trying to be realistic, we probably have a wait ahead of us; this topic has been on the Turkey/Greece agenda for 2 years. However, I have a feeling that due to the economic situation in Greece this time the pilot scheme will actually be implemented.

I have my fingers crossed,

Charlotte

Tell that to Rhodes then because you obviously know more than them.

I don't think so Can, I believe that's only if you hold a green passport.
We enquired a while ago and were told we couldn't travel to Chios for the day.

Re: Turkish nationals visa-free travel to closest greek Islands

Charlotte, It must have changed because yesterday morning my friend and I went down to Cesme harbour police station yesterday morning as she was taking her policewoman friend a gift who works there. Whilst we were there she asked her friend if it was possible that her Turkish husband could also to go over to Chios with us. My friend was told that it wasn't a problem. We should be going soon so will report back and let you know if her husband was allowed to get off the boat.

Re: Turkish nationals visa-free travel to closest greek Islands

Hopefully this is true, it would be fantastic if already being implemented. That is my understanding, that only those with a offical "green" passport can visit visa free, and those on a short cruise as this is coverd under a different convention governing maritime law.
