Yes it is the BOI and they are a bloody joke, well actually it is probably the persons in charge of FS at the post office as not one of them has a financial qualification. The PO is on the way out, it wont exist as we know it in 2 years time.
Linsey reckons too many people without experience have jumped on the band wagon at senior levels. Look at the farce with Williams and Glynns relaunch by RBS.

Both my wife and an English friend now pay no UK Tax except at the Bank of course ( UK ) Ian.
Thanks Ian, quite true.... Except of course for those of us, like my wife and myself, who have a pension from their work in public service (and I note that mine was self-funded, currently 11% and I paid for 37 years), who are and continue to be denied the same rights. For us, who have what is referred to as a Gov't pension (despite the fact that the Gov't has never added even 1p to mine) are required to pay tax at source in the UK, even if we have a non uk resident status.

To add insult to injury, once we have been out the the UK for a very short time (a month if you have benefits -thankfully I don't) we are not allowed to access any Uk provided services, including DLA, PiP, NHS or any form of Social Care or Education support.... In short, we have to continue to pay for something we can't use..

Linsey is spot on.
Well we are off to Zante tomorrow for 2 weeks so hopefully the PO still exists when we come back or better still doesn't then she can pick up her 6 months redundancy cheque.

Re: Nail the tax dodgers.

If you are non resident for tax purposes (as I am) you can claim back any tax paid on pensions. My main pot is in Guernsey (no tax), but another pension is paid from UK to my Turkish bank. That pension is tax free after I sent them a letter from tax man saying I am non res. Perhaps the rules have changed since I set this up?

I remember having to jump through a few hoops for the tax man to convince them I qualified. Mainly, it was time (5 years) and severing links to UK - property and bank accounts.

Thanks Ian, I have been trying to sort for some time and have even employed a tax specialist to assist, but according to the tax office there are different arrangements for those who have 'Gov't' pension and there is no facility to either avoid paying or to claim it back etc....

Re: Nail the tax dodgers.

With reference to inheritance tax a British citizen's estate WORLDWIDE will still be liable for the tax until the deceased has lived outside the UK for MORE THAN 17 years in the last 20 before death.
